What would make the ultimate SOCOM game?

I ask this out of curisoity.

 

I know a lot of people are keen for an HD remake of SOCOM 1 and 2, I presume with online multiplayer intact (becareful what you wish for, online features were cut from Splinter Cell), but think about the wider audience and how a game based on SOCOMs ideals can appeal to the modern gamer.

 

Even if it's just returning maps and modes, what would you like to see from the franchise?

Well I would say a game mainly designed for clans and team work. A game rewards players for working as a team....

 

Things that i would love to see:

 

  • Weapons that are only temporarily unlocked, for example say that Westie achieves completing objective X, which unlocks a weapon for a pre defined period of time.... if the objective X has not been achieved in that period of time the weapon will be locked until objective X has been achieved again. A system like this can be used as an incentive to promote playing of the objectives.
  • The abiility to truely choose the appearance of your soldier, similar to confrontations system.
  • Properly regulated clan battles.
  • Keeping the game as a no respawn for ranked games.
  • A wide variety of maps, game modes etc.
  • Dynamic objectives, for example on extraction the vips are not all located in the same place on each mad anf the extraction points are also in different locations.

A game primarilly designed for team based gaming, a dynamic objective system, a wide variety of maps!

bin respwans across the board because lets be fair if you want cod youd buy cod and if you like respawns socom might not be your game anyway ;o)

 

private match option/lobbies for true clan support

 

really tight netcode even if it only means 5 vs 5 

 

get rid of xp and all that crap 

 

all guns should be unlocked for EVERYONE from day 1 

 

only unlockables should be customizations which DO NOT affect gameplay i.e. color of gun, diff uniforms e.t.c.

 

lobbies should be searchable a la rainbow six black arrow

 

NO party chat! party chat is slowly killing the experience of meeting new people/possible friends

 

Fast mute option

 

No communication possible if youre dead 

 

the list goes on but im sure you get the picture ;o)

SOCOM 2 with 2012 graphics and less frame rate issues on the more demanding old PS2 maps.

Where do i start.

Lets just think socom 2 updated.

Why do you need to appeal to the modern gamer when socom had a huge fan base already?

Anyways:

- UCRR, these are a must socom has always had a great community and you could meet up with your freinds/ clans or random socomers you always bump into. When they removed this the community basically broke up

- 3rd person classic camera not this stupid ots

- Old socom crosshairs with better hit detection & keep the recoil

- Old maps return such as desert flory, fish hook, ruins etc keep them specific one map per game mode

- Game modes: demo, extract, escort, control, breach, sup, elim & bomb squad (bomb squad would have been better on socom II XD )

- Dpad lean the cover system just encouraged camping and so hard to kill someone in cover

- Return of the old fps mode and scope view NOT COD STYLE zooming

- Remote claymores

- All weapons & attachments unlocked

- no xp

- no run button, fast strafe ONLY

-Push to talk (NOT TAP TO TALK)

and everything else

This game needs to be fast paced, require skill & team work and then it may be classed as a Socom

A proper clan ladder system that works - like a built in gamebattles ladder.

 

Fix hit detection.

 

KEEP the same online structure - browsing servers and dedicated servers are a must for any SOCOM. No COD style P2P where you can't choose the maps.

 

No lag.

 

Regular updates to fix bugs.

 

Trophies.

 

Custom button mapping.

Cant describe the perfect SOCOM in a post, its a feeling and experience, not a dictatable list of features!

For me personally, Its defined by tense gameplay and the people you play it with. If I had to say one game I would say SOCOM:2 was the greatest, not just of the SOCOM series but of all online games in general. Hardly anything changed between SOCOM 1 and 2 except some new weapons and maps, the fact they kept old maps in 2 was great aswell. Sadly It went from a case of "Why change what isn't broken?" to "Oh, lets copy that feature.....and that...and that..."

For me SOCOM:3 started to deviate from the winning formula, it was good enough to play but not as good as its predecessor, and SOCOM:4, although a fun game in it's own rights, barely resembled the original formula at all. A series of tense battles and class tactics boiled down to homogenized weaponry/Damage and a dedicated grenade button....

The lack of a party system for several months didn't help either, since you know, they removed lobbies for the SOLE REASON that their new party system and matchmaking was "better"

Bah now I miss PS2 days after reciting this :smileysad:

Not that it's ever likely to happen, but my ultimate SOCOM would be a SOCOM MMO.

 

Not much would change from the core game play now, but there would be a serious and robust match making and tournament feature, as well as an adequate introduction to to the game.

 

Updates and content would be more regular and not cease after a measly 6-12 month.

 

That's my ultimate SOCOM.

Super jump. Unlimited anmo and 1hit kill. Leave out god mode though. That defeats the object of cheating lol. Wait did i say cheating? I meant playing pffft lool
