Don't listen to the reviews, SOCOM:Special Forces is brilliant

Almost finished the SP (on Hard), and while I haven't played any MP, I've given the beta a good shake, and I can happily report that SOCOM:smileyfrustrated:pecial Forces is one of my favourite SP and MP experiences this gen.  Now, it takes a bit of thought to play (too many reviewers brought up on CoD is my best explanation for the range of poor reviews), so if you just like running and gunning and not engaging the grey matter, SOCOM is not for you.

But if you tire of twitch-based shooters that you can play just while you're half-asleep, then SOCOM is a breath of fresh air.  At least on hard, you have to use your team, cover and the environment well, or it's back to the last checkpoint quicker than you can say 'bam'.  And online, SOCOM (other than suppression, which like every TDM mode in every game is as boring as it ever was) is more team-based and tactical than anything else out on PS3.  And you get online coop as well!  Awesome value, awesome gameplay :smileyhappy:.  It's not for everyone, but for its intended audience, it's rockin'.

Re: Don't listen to the reviews, SOCOM:Special Forces is brilliant

Its def keeper and was worth the wait. My only grind would be how easy it was (on normal) to run out of the palace in time when under attack by just keep running foward lol.....although i was getting hit i survived...may have been luck but thought it was an easy *glitch.

Multiplayer is where the game should shine once sony pull there finger out and put the service back up. I enjoyed the beta and love the bomb squad mode! Realy looking foward to taking it online!

Btw the graphics are amazing and the nade explosions are siiiiiiick

This game is bad. No lobbies, Regen health, Run button, No party system, Cover system, Not SOCOM, COD Conle, No UCRR.

That a small list. I can make a much biger list, But i don't got time to.

A few months later, I'd have to qualify the OP by saying the lack of lobbies _really_ hurts the community side of things.  It's still a great game, but the trouble you'll have playing with friends is a right pain in the arse (back during the Beta, we got told there'd be a party system at launch - but it's now almost half-way through July, and we still don't know when it'll happen).

The gameplay (on classic, which doesn't have regen health. Respawn's solid enough, but generic - classic's where it's at) is still pretty good.  I'd prefer SOCOM:Con without the glitches and with reasonable load times (although S:smileyfrustrated:F's not a quick loader, just quicker than Con), but I'd rate S:smileyfrustrated:F as my second favourite online shooter this gen for gameplay. However, social is a big element of online for me, and Zipper not being able to come through with the party system within over two months of launch is hurtin' the game something fierce.

Note it's not SOCOM online, although it's closer after patch 1.3.  But the maps are designed for respawn rather than classic SOCOM play, and the modes have nothing on any of the original SOCOM modes (well, other than suppression.....).  I enjoyed SP and Coop a lot, although again these aren't much like earlier SOCOM's.  My advice would be a weekend rental, and if you like play :smileyhappy:.

Socom 1: played it none stop till socom 2 came out

Socom 2 played it none stop till Socom 3 came out

Socom 3 played it for may'be 6 months

Socom CA didn't play it at all

Confrontation about 6months

Socom 4 will be lucky to play it for 3 months. I'm only playing it now cause there's nothung else to play and it only holds my attention for about an hour at a time.

Total fail Zipper

regen health was the worse thing since COD, I am so glad Battlefield 3 hasn't got regen health, Resistance 3 dropped the regen health, Socom needs to get rid of it aswell before I ever buy another Socom game.

Are you being sarcastic?  There's no regen in classic, and playing respawn SOCOM makes about as much sense as it always has.  BF3, on the other hand, has regenerating health to a point, then medpacks to top you up from the assault rifle-carrying class.  Both are great games, mind, and I'm really looking forward to the release of BF3 because the SOCOM maps are designed for respawn, and the classic play may be good, but the maps are average at best for classic.

I still play it a bit, and it's still quality.  Lack of lobbies is still poor, and map design could be better, but it's got enough for me to keep playing past the release of BF3 (although BF3 and UC3 will take top billing).
