Socom was the FIRST ever PLAYSTATION game online
No it wasn't.
pretty sure it was, it came out months before the network adapter and the F and F trials on it started pretty early - not sure when the HOA trials started though

play with aussies and it doesnt lag. i heard rfom 2 was a huge lagfest tho
All three games are run through dedicated servers, so can handle internationals with decent connections, and my experience with all three is fairly similar - it can depend on the day, but you can get a bit of lag with all three, but it's not too bad most of the time. You do seem to get more 'atrocious' lag in SOCOM, however (teleporting and the like) - at least over KZ2, haven't played enough R2 competitive online to say it with certainty for that game - but most of the SOCOM quick matches and even games against Internationals in our servers are fine, it's just the odd screwball connection from overseas that can mess everything up.
However, the big thing about SOCOM is that lag tends to favour the laggers (in KZ2 and R2, it just meant both of you would die a few seconds after you'd shot 'em - but the client-side hit detection in SOCOM seems to work a little differently), so internationals that are lagging in an Aussie server makes it tougher on the Aussies, and you'll notice it a lot more than in KZ2 and R2.
Of course, the answer in most cases is to do what Secksy suggests, and play against Aussies and Kiwis, or Internationals you know won't lag you out. Only two patches to go and we'll have our own Australasia server .
