Spending cash on online only game?- definitely worth it if its good. Warhawk proved this without a doubt.
Demo? - No demo, yet. I would expect one in the future after its worldwide release. Again similar to warhawk.
Compared to COD4/5? - Totally and utterly different. Gameplay is different, tactics are different, realism is different. It is not worth comparing them because they are so different. For me SOCOM was definitely worth the money because it offered a totally different shooter to any FPS.

LOLOLOL you cant compare socom against cod 4/4.5
Dashbob summarised socom preety well.
This game uses teamwork more than anything. You can invite people to your clan, you have clan ladders, you have ranking that is based on skill NOT how many games you have played (like cod4)
And you can never stop playing this game. Lifetime usage = 1000 years ![]()

This will be my first SOCOM game, as i understand you can't just run in all guns blazing (like cod) - you will get picked off, its about team work and tactics not going gang busters solo cod team death match.
to deserteagle, what's it like in 3rd person?? are he controls relatively easy to use? also say if your using a non sniping rifle when you aim at someone do you zoom in a little bit still in 3rdperson or does it go into fps but only from the gun?
thanks

it all depends if you have a scope on your gun or not tiger. if you dont have a scope you can zoom in a tiny little bit and still remain in 3rd person view, but the camera is just closer to the character. if you have a scope on your weapon, you can still zoom in to the same extent as with out a scope, but you can also zoom a few levels further and view everthing through the scope. and then its just like looking through a normal scope from any fps game.
the controls are good, but a little strange to get use to at the start. but they really make you feel like the controller is a tool not just a game device. you need to use the tool to all of its abilities and thats how you will have the ultimate experence

Socom 2 Zooming
Third person > First Person > Scope
Socom Confronation Zooming
THird Person > Other the shoulder biew > Scope
Why i compared.... cause I hate OTS and want FPS back ![]()
If you dont have a scope on your gun it would be
3rd Person > OTS > OTS view is slightly increased

Yeh chlippry is right. Controller is like a tool. Also if you aint wearing a mic, then you are gonna find this game hard.
For example:
You see an enemy pop out behind the corner and about to knife your teammate. You want to say "Hey behind you" but you cant and they get knifed. You cant be selfish in this game, especially clan wars.

I haven't played cod 5 but from what I hear it wasn't an improvement on cod 4. I had about 8 days played on cod 4 with a KDR of around 2.5 and played about 15 wars on it, winning most. i thought it was a decent game, but it has nowhere near the depth that socom has. Socom is a bit harder to pick up as it requires you to know the maps and how people play them to get kills, whereas cod 4 you can run around spraying blindly with no fear of death and get kills. There are aspects of socom which are frustrating such as grenade throwing, but I hear far less people complain about grenades in socom than I did on cod 4.
as far as clan wars go Cod 4 shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as socom. Socom will get youre blood rushing like no other game in a clan war.
and for 50 bucks it's only half the price of other games

Thats because it is only half a game (in the traditional sense).

I agree it was just some plastic surjery with added campers. Socom is tactical and although there are campers the game is still far more enjoyable. If you were to relate Socom to COD4 it is similar to the Search and Destroy Mode except in third person.
