This is not cool. I just downloaded "Take it on the Run" and "Eloise" and the songs crash to a black screen when selecting them. If I boot up singstar without any online updates the songs play fine. This might have something to do with having a large library. I have about 870 songs on the carousel. The current patch is garbage and needs to be updated ASAP!

I have had the Black screen issue (like yourself, with over 850 songs on my HDD) for about a year now, it must be.
they are STILL no closer to reolving this issue despite many promises over the months that it was in hand etc and "dont worry, its being looked into".
I have deleted and downloaded my songs GOD KNOWS how many times when they have said "yes, if you do this, they WILL work this time".
So very simple for them to take money for songs, but god forbid they should resolve any queries/problems us poor suckers have afterwards.
Its not on - your selling us something that some of us can't use due to a problem youcant/wont fix.
NEEDS SORTING ONCE AND FOR ALL.
5.13 Update only makes my singstar crash when it loads now......EVERY TIME.
So thats another great step forward - not.
Sigh.

It took them a while to get 5.13 out.
The only "issue" i've had with it so far, is when I chose to play "Starman" by David Bowie it just went to the game over screen and I get a score of zero.
I've got around 450 songs in total (so obviously I haven't tried each and every one), but it could've just been a strange anomaly. Deleting and re-downloading the song fixed it.
And, the SingStar Viewer no-longer crashes if you quit from the XMB.
Now if only they lowered the volume on the score screen and improved the initial loading time of the game... it takes longer with each update, or it could be due to the amount of DLC I have (i'm not sure).

I also have the problem with SingStar Viewer 5.13 that causes it to crash like 30 seconds after I get to the main menu. This is really annoying, how can something like this pass QA? What's worse, after each hard reset, the PS3 thinks it needs to repair the hard drive because it's corrupted. I'm now afraid to even start SingStar Viewer for fear of it causing permanent damage.
Fix this please!

Just updated to 5.13 and my 900 song carousel appears to rotate much smoother than the last patch. My biggest problem is that certain songs still crash to a black screen. The Damned "Eloise", Toto "Rosana", REO Speedwagon "Take it On the Run" to name a few. I can only play these songs if I boot up the game without applying ANY patch.

Mr_Writer is the man. By deleting all my dance/guitar add ons the game no longer crashes to black screen on certain songs. It was those blasted add ons all this time. Thank you so much!

Actually not all of the songs are fixed. Cats "Mister Mistofelles", Toto "Rosana" still crash and I'm sure many others do so. Deleting the add ons did fix some of the songs that used to crash though. This is just a big headache. The only way I found to get songs to work perfectly is to play the game with no patch applied although several hundred songs are missing from the carousel when I do that. What a pain.

Hey Sideshown,
Cats "Mister Mistofelles" and Aqua "Barbie Girl" are doing the same thing for me, I also had problems downloading the new song packs last night as well.
The songs are appearing on the selection list but got errors downloading them.
Is there any light at the end of the tunnel for getting these songs working ???
Cheers,
Casper

I'm in the process of troubleshooting this issue casper2k6. Its possible songs that are of the larger file size such as 80 to 100MB have this issue. Barbie Girl is working for me. I have 870 songs downloaded and am curious if you have a large library such as mine? If you have any guitar/dance add ons I recommend deleting them off of your hard drive as this did fix some of my songs. I'll make more posts in this thread if I find any concrete evidence to this issue.
