Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

The Sydney Roosters' boss has come out saying he'd like to see an end to field goals in extra time, which might be something that comes up for review at the end of the season. That probably wouldn't be an easy task at any rate, without a field goal chances are you'll see a lot more draws which defeats the purpose of extra time anyway. The only way to make it easier to get a result would be reduce the number of players, make it a 7-on-7 encounter or something which to be honest sounds fairly stupid as well.

I haven't heard the other argument, which is about scoring on the first series. In the NFL's equivelent of a semi-final (game before the Superbowl) about 18 months ago the New Orleans Saints won by kicking a field go in their very first series, beating the Minnesota Vikings without them even touching the ball. The rule was changed in their off-season so that the opposing team had to score on their next series, otherwise they'd lose the game. Undoubtedly if a similar thing happened in the NRL there'd be a blow-up about unfair advantage.

Good game last night with the tigers and dragons. Any night the dragons lose and the dogs win is good by me even if they weren't playing each other

Geez what a crappy year for my Eels... I'd say we'll get the wooden spoon.

If we don't make the 8 next year I give up!

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

Okay looking at the table with only three rounds to go, there are some interesting implications:

- Unless the Bulldogs win tonight by 55 or more, they will remain on 10th position

- Unless the Sharks win by 42+ or lose by 32+ they will remain on 12th position

- The Melbourne Storm have secured a Top-3 finish

- The Manly Sea Eagles have secured a Top-4 finish

- The Brisbane Broncos only need one more win to secure a Top-4 finish

- Only 12 teams are still in the hunt for a Top-8 spot, and even then the Sharks have to win every game

- The Roosters, Raiders, Eels and Titans are no longer in Finals contention

- The Cowboys and Dragons need one more win to secure a finals berth

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

Always said don't think NSW and QLD need another NRL team, more so NSW. If and when they expand it should be WA and SA. I think WA pretty much have a chance of 1 of the expansion teams. If NSW get another team, they should/need to relocate 1 of the others to SA. At least that's my stance and opinion on it.

[ Edited ]

Yeah there was a game the other week in Perth, can't remember what teams were playing (both NSW teams).......but sounds like the NRL are trying to get "the west" into the comp which could be good I guess, considering it's mainly a NSW (or Sydney)  based comp
