Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

I hope we can extend it to like other states, NT, WA, SA - I mean, seriously they shouldn't have to miss out regardless

Yeah there was a game the other week in Perth, can't remember what teams were playing (both NSW teams).......but sounds like the NRL are trying to get "the west" into the comp which could be good I guess, considering it's mainly a NSW (or Sydney)  based comp

I remember that game, it was the Rabbitohs and the Broncos. I can understand why you wouldn't remember it too well, those teams seam to attract the most angst from Manly fans. :smileytongue:

Surprised by the low-scoring affair in the Storm-Dragons game tonight, I thought the commentating was funny. Gus in particular was ripping into St George and praising Billy Slater the entire night up to about the last 10 minutes when somebody reminded them that St George could still win it off a lucky try. One of the anomalies of the game where the score doesn't really reflect the match that was played before us.

gavsta72: Was the Broncos and Rabbitohs playing in Perth. Was going to go see it, lucky i didn't though, Perth got flooded by rain that weekend. Nice way for the weather to welcome the NRL i think.

The Dragons n Storm was a good game, unfortunatly the Dragons have gone in the wrong direction at the wrong time of the year..........they may not even make the top 8 the way they're going

Manly will flog the Storm, just like the 40-0 GF win a few years ago....the biggest win in GF history :smileywink:

GO MANLY

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

The Dragons will make the 8, the only way they wouldn't is if the Knights defeated both the Broncos and Bulldogs but lost to the Rabbitohs, the Rabbitohs won their remaining games against the Broncos and Knights, AND St George lost their remainders to the Warriors and Panthers. Any deviation from that and St George are in.

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

On a point about the Dragons, it's bad news for them but even worse for NSW. With so many Dragons involved in Origin this year, and it would've been more had it not been for injury, losing the series the way they did would've had an impact, and it's lead to this. But in less than 12 months time, the Dragons may not even be the form team of the competition anymore (not that they are now). We could well see the Knights become what the Dragons were in year 1 - defensive resolve, not a great deal in attack but that'll come later - and the Dragons could slide back to their pre-Bennett days.

For NSW, for whom change is the enemy, how do you pick a side with a large volume of players from one club who aren't even the best in the competition anymore? Do you suddenly draft a lot of Knights players to help you out? It's scary when you think that NSW won't get two games in Sydney until 2014, and the team may undergo a drastic reconstruction in the process.

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

Well, as entertaining as the brawl was on Friday night, Adam Blair is gone for the season and no doubt Glenn Stewart's the same. I wouldn't slash either team's premiership odds, but it will have an impact.

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

I think its stupid that they're punishing them so harshly. Its a CONTACT sport, people get frustrated and fight.
Get over it. -.-
When i played footy for my local team - there were all in brawls all the time.

Re: The Official (new) 2011 NRL Thread

Yeah, unfortunately I think this is less about appeasing fans and more about appeasing advertisers. As David Gallop said, there are a lot of parties investing in their brand, and they have to take action to keep guys like R.T. Edwards, VB and AAMI happy.
