Is it Warhawk or is it us?

I’ve read recently about how Warhawk has changed for the worse:

  • Being kicked
  • Elite Players
  • Teamkilling
  • Single Towing
  • Lack of teamwork
  • Mining objectives

And that new games are going to be the answer to these problems and the community spirit will rise again once they are released.

However looking at the above list they have always been a problem in Warhawk, and I think the point about new games is the key.

I think everyone here, including me, have been lured away from Warhawk by the promise new games, something different, something perhaps better. However like it is said things only seem greener on the other side until you cross over, and by that time you can't cross back.

I think its that the game has gotten worse.

But also we have changed.

Actually the game hasn't gotten worse, but the community spirit has

This may be a long shot but I think it may be people that aren't as good, that are not playing in numbers.

Go into a 32 player game now and most of the time it's at least about 12 "Ronaldos" on each side. That means that the players that aren't as good get clobbered, especially the newbies.

I think every online game has a life cycle that goes a bit like:

Birth > Ranking Up, Learning > Main Phase (+DLC) > DLC/Dev attention cut-off > Hardcore > Very Hardcore > Server Cuts > Death

Game launch, people rank up (possible unlockables), learning, getting to grips with game. After that everyone knows mostly everything, DLCs coming to freshen it up, add some more things. Once Devs cut all but basic support the game heads downhill, everything left in the game is set in stone, nothings changing. More players leave, only mainly the very good ones left. With this the game only gets harder and there are many concepts exploited (certain weapons and uses). Then the dev finally cuts servers and that's yer lot.

Of course most online games die premature to this due to lack of players. So long as there are servers and we're in this gen of consoles there will still be players.

I'd say Warhawk is starting to get very hardcore; ever since SOCOM and KZ2 there's been a massive cut in players from these forums.

It leaves me with a bit of a dilemma too for my clan, our main game was intended to be Warhawk, but with most members being new to the game, it's not going to be fun.

Sorry for blaspheming but from recent experiences, it's the beginning of the end for Warhawk, and I hope Starhawk does not have exactly the same mechanics otherwise there will be a lot of single troop TOWs from X-Wings right from the game's launch.

Re: Is it Warhawk or is it us?

kinda agree with you there pc, people genrally want to try something new and subsequently the gaming community on warhawk was chipped away at by new games appearing which drew the attention of some of the more long-term warhawkers:smileysad:

however, imo the issues stated by DHominis have been blatantly evident in this game from the first day i played it, apart from maybe the server kicks. i myself use mines on and around objectives, i thought that's what mines were for?? and lack of teamwork was always an issue, when i first played i would think there was no comms in some games cos nobody said anything, then i found this community and the game reached a whole new level for me.... i guess it's a case of whether you can put up with the games shortcomings and still have fun with it. personally, i still have a fanatical love of warhawk, but even i have been guilty of playing other games recently. not because of a loss of interest in wh, but just because i keep buying these titles when they arrive on the shelves(yes i'm a slave to commercial consumer advertising:smileysad:) and i want to get some play for my pennies, not just buy a £40 ornamental dust collector

i've found that if you 'surf' the PR servers you can normally find one which is being played properly and the host won't kick people who kill them or beat them to a vehicle or hawk. i've got a few on my faves list so normally i just go straight to that n if none of them are available, then i'll go into a blue server

i really wish people would return in the same kinda numbers as they left, but sadly it's a fact of life that alot of folk just don't wanna come back once they've moved on, cos they'll feel rusty or the people on their FL aren't playing anymore etc etc well i'm not planning on turning my back on the game just yet, i love mines n still find myself giggling when i get caught by one. teamkilling is hilarious in an 'ooopss! sorry!!' kinda way:smileyvery-happy: single troop TOWs don't bother me in the least, i just respawn n try again. teamwork can be induced through communication sometimes, and other times when nobody appears interested in teamwork, it doesn't really matter because i'm still having fun running around killing things without the risk of jail-time:smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:

  • Being kicked
  • Thats always a problem when your kicked & you dont know why!!?
  • Maybe they should of put something in place that if a room host kicks you there has to be a valid reason not just so his buddie can join...
  • Elite Players
  • I think your always going to get those that were here 1st & have the most experience.......
  • Its the ones that just dont rank up & habitually haunt the lower servers getting shed loads of points off the less experienced!!!!
  • Teamkilling
  • Ahhhh good old teamkilling it happens!!!! hopfully mostly by mistake but there are those that when killed by accident want to get revenge on you....
  • Mind you its the t##ts that join the team & then attempt to kill everyone on it that are a pain & should be kicked..
  • Single Towing
  • I hate single towing it always seems a cheap nasty trick .... but if that is all you have left "needs must when the devil drives"
  • Lack of teamwork
  • Even though i'm not a great fan of clans!!!! they do provide some bloody good team work at times...
  • As for lack of it well when your in a 32 player room there could be ppl from a whole host of countrys with a dozen different languages I think in that sort of situation you just have to support the ppl at the front of the charge so to speak..
  • Mining objectives
  • Flags,vehicles,ladders,doorways/archways  even bunkers (except home base bunkers) are all above board targets its when you die going for weapons & the such that pi##es me off its just easy kills in the end...

New games are not the key as you will eventually get all the above happening in them sooner or later & we will be going from one new game to another looking for the perfect game!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Is it Warhawk or is it us?

[ Edited ]

Definitely a community problem and not a game problem.

Warhawks - Too many players see this as the only thing of importance in the game. Ignore the objectives and actually getting out and capturing the flag or grabbing a zone... Far better to just sit in your hawk the whole match killing anyone on the ground. It's gone from capturing the zones or flags to all about just stopping the others from capturing them... After all, getting out to grab a zone could you see you killed and put a dent in that KDR, much safer up in a hawk where you can just pick off anyone who does try to actually get an objective.

Elitism - Plenty of threads on here descend into people criticising certain tactics or telling people they're playing the game wrong. This is definitely something that has slowly eaten it's way into these boards like a cancer from the US forums and the EU players who visit them.

Cliqueness - Gang mentality on here is a joke. Whenever I see a post from a player on here then 99%  of the time I know immediately who will be agreeing with them, giving them completely pointless and sycophantic kudos or praising their posts... The sad thing is I don't know this based on the content of the posts but simply based on the players names or clan tags. I've even seen some players saying one thing in one thread to agree with one of their clique then a couple of months later saying exactly the opposite to agree with another of their gang, forgetting their previous viewpoint:smileysad:

Points/Ranks/KDR - When I first started playing you could lose all night long and still have fun. Base raping was rare, team switching in the middle of matches to try and balance things up was pretty much expected, the clear noob players weren't killed mercilessly over and over again, people would get out of hawks and switch to ground pounding if their side was dominating the sky, etc... Nowadays an overwhelming air advantage or base raping is seen as a good way to up those points, ranks and KDR's.

It's no wonder so many people are leaving Warhawk and the few new players that do come through are so swiftly put off of the game. The more people who leave the more the problems is compounded as well as the 'veterans' still playing fall further and further into the traps I mentioned above.

Re: Is it Warhawk or is it us?

Its called progress for me, there are many better games now available to play, WH was great last year with so few other online titles available, but there are many more games to play, which fulfill my online experience better than WH now can.
