MusterBuster's Starhawk Tactics Thread

Hello fellow 'hawker!

This thread is dedicated to the sharing of tactics experienced, conjured or borrowed, good or bad, that can be employed by a team of players in Starhawk.

It works in a very simple way...

How to submit a tactic to the thread:

It's really easy!

  1. Create a new post in reply to this one. You'll see this post you're reading now at the top of the text editor box.

  2. Decide whether your tactic is a good or bad one. If it's good and is likely to help a team win the game, copy and paste the happy smilie into the top of your post. If it's bad and is likely to make a team look like bumble-bees on copious amounts of coca-cola, copy and paste the unhappy smilie into the top of your post:

  3. Give the tactic a name. If it's a good tactic, give it a good name. If it's a bad tactic, give it the most ludicrous (but still descriptive) name you can think of. Make sure the name of the tactic is in bold.

  4. Describe the tactic, using pictures and illustrations wherever possible. If this means you have to doodle out a diagram on the back of your math book, take a photo on your phone and upload it - so be it! Pictures will really help this thread become an awesome resource.

  5. Add any extra information, such as which maps the tactic can be used on, the types of players you'll need to pull it off, how much rift will be needed or specific game modes in which the tactic works best. Be sure to list these as bullet points, just to make the thread look pretty.

  6. Submit it!

How to rate a tactic:

This changes a little depending on whether the tactic is a good or bad one...

Good Tactics should be given Kudos if they make strategic sense and are likely to lead a team to victory when followed as described.

Bad Tactics should be given Kudos if they are really, really ludicrous. Giving a bad tactic Kudos should only be done if the tactic really mad you laugh at the thought of a team actually using it.

Other bits:

  • First and foremost, stick to the House Rules.
  • Before you contribute a tactic, please make sure that you have read and Kudos'd a few others first. That little bit of extra input will make other contributors feel really good and more likely to Kudos you back.
  • Do your best to make your post look pretty and stick to the format described in this post, it'll help make the thread really easy to read. There's an example from me below if you're unsure what to do.
  • Do not slate other people's tactics. If a submitted tactic is marked as Good but is full of holes and flaws, simply don't Kudos it. If you absolutely must give feedback, ensure that it's either constructive or hillarious and definitely not abusive.

TACTIC OF THE MONTH:
Not Enough Tactics Yet this month! Why not submit one?

Re: MB's Starhawk Tactics Thread

BUILD A WALL! BUILD A WALL DAMMIT
A WAAAAAALLLL!

By far the worst tactic a team in Starhawk can employ is that of frantically building the only thing available at the start of a game: walls and turrets.

This tactic is employed as a result of absolutely no communication whatsoever and general idiocy. Typically, the tactic is played out by slamming a series of walls down around the flag, entrances or even just in a random location close to where you podded in, whilst a series of other players do the same.

The problem with this tactic is that walls drain your total build allowance, reducing your ability to set up crucial strike outposts in the late game. Worse still, if friendly fire is off - a wall cannot be destroyed by a wiser, more experienced team mate who just drove his jeep into it whilst trying to escort the flag back to base.

  • GAME MODES: Any with Build & Battle
  • WHEN THIS TACTIC CAN BE EMPLOYED: At any time, most often at the start of a game.
  • SUITABLE MAPS: Any. The smaller the map, the worse this tactic becomes.
  • IDIOCY RATING: 10/10

TURRET CAPTURE.

In space during CTF most people have now started to build 3 walls in a triangle with ladders facing out. Before going to the enemy base make sure you have 4 rift energy. When they have this triangulr fortress made most people jump in and get stuck. Before you grab the flag, with the first 2 rift energy spawn a garage outside. With the last 2 rift energy spawn a turret next to the low part of the wall. Grab the flag and jump on the turret then over the wall. Works best if the razorback is right outside where you spawned the turret ready to go.

  • Can be substituted for a sniper town on Acid Sea.
  • This just reinforces musters last post.
  • If there is enemy turrets there shoot the red "eye" with a sniper from afar for 1 hit kills.
  • I wanted 4 points like MB.

EDIT: How many tactics can we submit because I have quite a few.

Or save some to use against you:Wink: Since your plan is to hunt everyone in the thread down in starhawk and mess with them using their own tactics isn't it :smileytongue: I'll post more later so :smileytongue:

Team Work

As we all know we all start with 3 bars of rift. By waiting about 30 secs you'll have the 4th bar. With proper coordination with or without mics you can now have all your really need the defend or begin an assault. 3 players can now put down all you need. Jet Pack, Weapons Bunker and Hawk Station. If your a non-mic'er wait and watch before you build. If you were going to build a Jet Pack and someone else did. Put down the Hawk Station for the team. Even if you don't fly.

Also don't spawn into a sub-base and start shooting rift barrels from someone who was collecting. 4 bars of rift divided BTW 2 players that wanted to build a Hawk Station doesn't work.

Completely agree with this! You can actually gain a significant advantage over the enemy team by waiting just a few seconds for that 4th bar. Having rockets and hawks from the off is a huge benefit to everyone.

Re: Team Work

as postet in another section i don´t wait normally for the fourth rift because i collect them through barrels.

in space you can land on the highest skyscraper right from the start. from there you can shoot 5 barrel locations. when i have collected enough i jump down to the base. now i can see what the others had build in the first time an can complete or base with the buildings that are needed. i build always the bunker or an jetpack dispender in the channel behind the flag because i think that´s are the best defensive buildings a team will need. the jetpack is perfect in the airly game against the razorbacks and to recapture your flag if it is stolen.

in acid sea i spawn in the middle route and try to get the two barrels on the left side. than i got 4 rifts run to the repairtool and build there a jetpack dispender. if an friendly razorback drive by i hop in and go for the flag with my early jetpack. when i do this i try to get 2 rifts on the way to build an extra garage for the escape. another guy should do an early sniper harassment from the middle of the map to cover our attack. i´m trying to use the repair tool as the co-driver

when you die you can always spawn on the repair tool...

Re: MB's Starhawk Tactics Thread

Enemy Base: Bunker Capture The Flag Sabotage Successfully!

Spoiler
The following only woks in Space. Also, I apologise for the terribly structured title. It was sabotaged by the bunkers in the following tactic:

In Space, upon starting. immediately spawn onto the skyscraper tower as the above user mentioned. From here, you can see the enemies rift barrels, the rift barrels on the middle platform closest to the enemies, a group of rift barrels on the left (or right depending on which base you're at) near the ramp leading up to the middle section and a group near the home base. Destroy as much as you can and hopefully you'll have eight barrels (if not, wait where you are and then destroy them as they respawn and you should have eight starting immediately. Jump onto the platform below (where the group of three rift barrels are) and build a jetpack dispenser here if there isn't already one and take the one that spawns. Destroy any Rift Barrels you can see from here (although if there's none it doesn't matter as you only need a minimum of four but ideally getting as close to eight again is preferrable) and fly to the middle platform. If there is any Rift Barrels, destroy them. Now if you have eight Rift Energy here you may want to make a Pod Beacon as close to the main enemy base as possible (Beside the rift energy barrel spawn) but it's risky to leave it there potentially unguarded. Regardless of what you do, go to the railings on the left or right side (which once again depends on the team) and jump/fly over and land down below. There is a ramp that goes up and looks right at where the enemy's flag is and to the left/right there is a group of Rift Energy Barrels. I'm quite certain there is two barrels but it's possible there is three (it doesn't really matter either way).

Build a Bunker slightly behind the small ramp so that the entrance is at the opposite side of the ramp (basically just put it down so that the center is looking right at the flag). Now, stand on the missile spawn and blow up the Rift Energy Barrels. Now, if there is no enemy shield put up, launch missile into missile at the enemy's build and battle structures in the following order:

1. Shield, must be destroyed first from the inside. Highest priority.
2. Enemy Bunkers, can destroy yours and pose the most danger, attack these first in most instances
3. Beam Turrets, Easy to destroy, can halt your team's air assault and can be pointed at the Supply bunker.
4. Turrets, Very easy to destroy, two missiles, and they can do nothing to you.
5. Any-non wall structure that isn't a sniper tower, Easier to destroy than a wall and they benefit the enemy team so destroy them.
6. Enemy walls, destroy these for the points and to clear a route to the flag.
7. Sniper Towers. These are pretty much useless for Defense on Space so let them clog up the enemy.

Constantly check for the Rift Barrels (visible from inside the Bunker) and when you get four put down a pod beacon nearby. The next time you get four keep them. If the enemy team destroys either structure (and by now you'll have cleared the enemy base of most buildings so you'll have their attention) replace it as quickly as possible. The bunkers get priority over the beacons because they can be used to kill enemies (refueling your rift energy), destroy enemy structures (so somebody can easily capture the flag) and also as a defensive structure that allows you to withstand damage for longer. When a decent amount of your team mates finally start to spawn here there'll be less pressure on you and you can make suicide dashes towards the flag, advance into the enemy's spawn or retreat and blow up any remaining structures not inside their base (so you can force all enemies to spawn within view of your missile launching super fort).

Short version: Build a bunker outside the ramp that leads up (a tiny amount) to the enemy flag on Space, just outside their spawn area. Go in, sit on missile spawn, destroy the enemies, build a pod beacon, your team wins nine times out of eleven and three twenty-sevenths.

This also works on Team Deathmatch if you wish to create a base-rape situation very easily.

  • GAME MODES: Capture the Flag is most effective. It still works well on Team Deathmatch however
  • WHEN THIS TACTIC CAN BE EMPLOYED: The sooner the better so the enemy cannot accumulate enough Rift Energy to replace what you destroy as soon as you destroy it. It will work later still but you're more likely to be invaded in the bunker or to get it destroyed.
  • SUITABLE MAPS: Space? SPACE! SPPAAAAACCCEEE!
  • Rating: Depends on whether you want to maybe win (play without this) or rank so hard (In excess of 10,000 points per game can be gotten on average with this) that your enormous explosive payload rips through the enemy defense and plants your seeds of victory within mere moments after you commence.

Re: Team Work

Oh boy, I hate this! I built a sub base near barrels in acid sea, it was rocking, jet pack despenser, supply depot with full turrets, both entrances blocked off with gates flanked by beam cannons and with two turrets in front. Sniper tower by each gate, buggy garage and landing pad covered by a shield and four more beam cannons making a total of eight!!! Enemy planes couldn't get near because of the turrets and rocket troops on the sniper tower, any buggy that came over the bridge was taken out before getting to the gate, people where sniped before getting near the gates. People would drop in, stock up on weapons, jump in a vehicle and run off to fight.

Then some numpty comes in and reclaims the depot to build ANTOTHER launch pad, when I had one, with a hawk, Ready to use!!!!

Why do people keep building new buildings when they already exsist!
