I've been playing around with starhawk for around 5 hours now and am wondering why the developers have shipped the game with four of the most un-inspired modes on the planet, despite claiming this game was truely unique. what the game needs to lure people in is an exclusive mode, an experience they can't possible think they will find any where else, a mode which truely feels starhawky...
I have to ask how with the "build and then also battle aswell" system, a story mode like that and a coop like it is that they managed to not see the glaringly obvious and create a versus tower defense mode and so with that thought in mind I present you with a number of ideas I have for a new mode. please keep in mind I'm just throwing a bunch of ideas out there, these ideas ar not all going to work within one mode.
The core objective would be to destroy the enemy teams rift harvestor ( y'know, the big useless tower in their home this would, for what I'd hope are fairly obvious reasons, need to be done using something other then the main weapons from the game. some ideas I had for this are:
A new, slow vehicle loaded with explosives. the vehicle would be very slow to move, but very heavily armoured and would require a pilot to move. there would be no guns on the vehicle, forcing teams to work together to defend it. enemy players could build walls or other such defenses to try and divert it to buy some time etc... the beam turrets wouldn't damage it much if at all or it'd become impoissible to get it to their base. once their it'll need say 20 seconds before detonation.
Another Idea would be hand held bombs. you wouldn't be allowed to use vehicles whilst holding the bomb, but you could throw it like a grenade. the game would end up being played kinda like rugby, with each team trying to force the bomb through the opposition to the other side. alternately, there could be only one bomb, so the teams would have to fight over possesion as well as trying to get through.
an alternate idea again would be for there to be say 2 or 3 sheild generators which must be destroyed to make the harvestor vunerable to regular fire from explosive weapons, until the enemy team can call in new generators using build and then also battle aswell.
maybe instead of trying to destroy it, the teams have to try and rob rift energy from it. when you reach the harvestor, the longer you stay, the more rift you collect, the objective being to gather 100 total rift and bring it back to your home base, but the more you have the more dangerous it is (maybe higher rift levels mean lower defense, weaker bullets, slower movement etc...)
