I played online for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed the game apart from some serious baserapes.

I was driving the tank with a passenger on board and I was killed but my passenger survived. Is it possible to be killed by a sniper while you are driving the tank as I cannot think of any other way that I could have been killed and the passenger (who had his head out of the hatch) survived. I drove the tank backwards in any other game I played after this.

I think this happened to me as well. Just minus the passenger. I'll need to test this.

yep I love to sniper the driver. You can get them through the window at the front.

Best way to stop a tank, frankly. Save risking suicide by attacking it with a Hawk. I've helped my team escape several base rapes by building a Watchtower and bubble shield

The bubble shield is necessary - takes 4-5 shots to get one dead on the driver. And he WILL know where you are after the first!

honestly Musterbuster, on my first attempt at trying it, I managed it on my second go, now I know roughly where to aim and normally get it in two or three. Problem is that once they know they are being shot at they move...not always a bad thing, but it stops them pounding your base even if you don't kill them.
