Starhawk Community Competition.

To celebrate the release of Starhawk™ exclusively on PlayStation®3, we're running a very exciting community competition giving you the chance to take on the guys at LightBox Interactive in a multiplayer showdown, plus the chance to win other awesome Starhawk prizes.

This community competition we like to call The Starhawk Showdown is a month long knock-out tournament where you'll get to compete against some of the finest sharpshooters across Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The tournament kicks off on 26th May 2012, concluding with the final round on 16th June 2012.

It's a team event. There are no restrictions to the composition of teams except that to qualify as a team you need to have a maximum of 15 participants (12 players and 3 reserves). You don't all have to be from the same country. The matches will consist of a combination of Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Zones. Further details, including tournament times, will be confirmed closer to the date.

Now for the important bit. The prizes on offer include:

First place
Participants will each receive:

final match of Starhawk against LightBox Interactive (the developer of Starhawk) on 20th June 2012 (so, 4 days after the final match)
one year subscription to PlayStation®Plus
Starhawk t-shirt
exclusive Starhawk DLC, the Rift Hunter MP skin

Second place
Participants will each receive:

three month subscription to PlayStation®Plus
Starhawk t-shirt
exclusive Starhawk DLC, the Rift Hunter MP skin

Third place
Participants will each receive:

Starhawk t-shirt
exclusive Starhawk DLC, the Rift Hunter MP skin

These are the prizes for first, second and third place, however each participant in a team will be rewarded a prize if they have participated in at least one match. They will each receive the exclusive Starhawk DLC, the Rift Hunter MP skin, which will be the only way to get this bonus DLC content.

Re: Starhawk Community Competition.

I got a request to play in this tournament on the 9th of the month. Requesting if I could let them know if I could play that evening  seriously?

We had a team of players ready to play every bloody match and got turned away.

Why enter a tournie if ya not ready to or can't field a team to play your matches? What a joke.

Re: Starhawk Community Competition.

Happens all the time, unfortunately - while CLANZ is pretty casual, we generally get 15-30% attrition of teams in a tourney (unless they're really short), and almost one guaranteed non-starter. It's just the difference between everyone thinking "cool, this'll be fun" and then realising "hang on, I have to organise everyone to get on at a certain time, this sounds a bit like hard work". The team sizes listed for the tourney were a bit small as well - unless you're rolling with pretty hardcore squads (unlikely at this early stage in Starhawk's life), you want a squad size about twice the size of the team, to ensure consistent turnouts at a range of times (another mistake teams make is they assume everyone wants to play at the same time as them).

So not such a surprise, although always frustrating when it happens.
