Promote PSP as "PlayStation Certified device"

by jedunnolol on ‎29-06-2012 11:17 PM

I have a PSP and I would like to develop "officialy" on it.

Since game industry moved to vita, sony should allow third party developers having fun with this (old but) amazing platform.

The PSP has a huge educational purpose :
> it have a lot of interesting hardware feature (wifi+usb+media decoding)
> it offer an other point of view of programing (Procedural)
> it's cheap

I don't expect to see a C# IDE on PSP but sony may at least release it PSP toolchain or sell it at low price ~$60 (or something cheap enough to be bought by a single person).

If 5 years ago someone told me that in 2012 sony will allow people to create they own game and application on a console , I wouldn't believe him. I don't know who convinced sony to change to that developer's politic but he's a great man :smileyhappy:

So, whenever this suggestion will be accepted or rejected :
You guys rock :smileywink: keep going this way

but if it's rejected could you tell us the reason ? Don't worry, I'm a very comprehensive person :smileyhappy:

First of all, this really isn't relevant at all to PlayStation Mobile. This SDK would take quite a bit of re-engineering to add support for the PSP.

Secondly, it's not quite as simple as Sony releasing an SDK to suppor the PSP since it doesn't have the fundamental mechanism to allow the same kind of access as the PSM SDK has.

There has always been the open source toolchain available for anyone wanting to develop on their PSPs which ofcourse requires installing a CFW but it's the only real option available if you want to develop for the old system.

Thank you for the answer.

>this really isn't relevant at all to PlayStation Mobile
Sorry about that, does there is a place for that request (except psp.scedev.net) ?

>There has always been the open source toolchain
I'm currently using an unofficial pspsdk and 7 years later it still incomplete (unlike the Sony's Programmer Tool Runtime Library)

>which ofcourse requires installing a CFW
No, Official FW can execute 3rd party binary too.

I'm just asking a way to officially develop on this platform (I'm not a society and i don't have €3000) without being threaten of "hacker" or "pirate".

But if it's impossible it's okay, I'm a very robust person :smileywink:

I don't think the PSP has enough memory to be an official Playstation Mobile device. Doesn't it only have 32MBs? Compared to 256-512MBs for all the other certified devices.

You can officially develop on Vita for free right now, Sony doesn't charge anything for the SDK or the emulator. You can even play your game on a vita if you buy one, for no extra fees.

Once the beta ends you'll probably have to pay $99 a year to keep doing that, but it's still a lot less than a one time €3000 fee.
