Support Compressed Textures

by theanaconda ‎08-05-2012 07:23 PM - edited ‎08-05-2012 07:24 PM

Supporting compressed textures would be greatly beneficial, especially given the memory limitations of the system. While additional compression methods differ between different graphics chipsets, everything meeting the OpenGL ES 2.0 specification, which the suite is based on, at minimum should support ETC1, as it is a part of the OpenGL ES 2.0 specification itself, and so we should at least be able to support that compression format.

I agree with this suggestion. All other mobile platforms support compressed textures and they drastically reduce the download size of the games with only minimal deterioration in graphical quality. This makes a huge difference when creating a very graphics heavy game which can mean the difference between a download size of say 500MB and 50MB.

No compressed textures support is really disappointing guys :-(

I can't give kudos, but I'd like to see this too. I've ported most of my game already, but I might not put it in the Playstation Mobile store if I don't get either texture compression or use of more than 96MBs of memory.

Other than that, it's been a pleasure to develop for Vita so far.

I cannot give kudos, but I would like to support this suggestion.
