Ps3 controller problem

While playing black ops and i press R3 to spring my controller does other functions, Sometimes it shoots, Changes weapons. It stopped happening a while ago (During double xp weekend) but recently started again today after not playing for a few days.

Any idea?

tldr, Pressing R3 sometimes results in weird control behavior.

Sounds like a faulty control... if it's less than a year old contact Playstation Support and they'll swap it out.

Older than a year... buy a new control. Nothing works forever.

Have you tried recalibrating your controller?

Turn the controller over and to the right of the screw, you'll see a reset button, you'll need a paperclip or something similar.

With the controller turned on, press and hold this button for around 10 seconds.

You'll see the lights flash and turn off, then turn back on.

Release the button after around 10 seconds and the controller has been recablirated.

Any controller has a 12 month in store warranty, so if it's been purchased in the last 12 months, and you cannot seem to fix it with any normal/simple troubleshooting steps, you can take it back to the store of purchase (with receipt) for a replacement.

I've recently been having a similar issue. Especially in the Uncharted 3 beta - often when pressing L3 to sprint, I'll punch, or throw a grenade or do something random (not sprint). It's like other buttons are being pressed when clicking L3. I've got 3 controllers and I'm pretty sure all 3 of them are doing the same thing. Surely all 3 couldn't glitch out the same way at the same time!

Pretty sure dropping or water would void the warranty?

Yes it does void warranty and we dont service or repair them and if it is under the 12 month warranty period and hasnt been knocked, dropped or spill damage then take it back to the store with your receipt and they will exchange for new.

It would void the warranty to have it dropped in water, yes.

However, if a person was to say remove any physical evidence of this, dry it up really nicely etc, make sure there was no sound of water sloshing around in it etc, they could likely take it along to their local retailer with a receipt, and let them know how it "just stopped working right"...if they do an instore swap, if the controller shows no sign of physical damage it's not as though they're going to open it up themselves is it?

Nope. They'd just send it back along with the rest...and you'll have your replacement controller.

As for it being out of warranty...not really much you can do there is it?

I mean you could just buy yourself a new controller of the same type, and try your luck taking the old one back and hoping things like serial numbers aren't taken into account by that particular employee/store (trainees perhaps?), take your receipt along with the old controller provided it wasn't in completely crap condition, and see how things play out.

Worst case scenario - They know, at which point you could just say "Hey sorry I didn't pack the controller back in myself, I'll bring the other one in shortly"

Best - It works, and you get two controllers for the price of one.

A person could think about doing these things if they were so inclined...of course, we're all nicer and more honest people than that here, aren't we?

I'd be very disappointed to hear that someone had actually been doing underhanded things like this, we must support our local retailers and all that...
