I purchase a slim Ps3 which I started playing on in early January 2011. I have noticed 3 problems so far which are making me nervous that my Ps3 is faulty or developing a fault.
1) First problem i noticed was when playing Uncharted 2 - the single player mode crashed (froze) around chapter 24 and it did this 2 more times (twice in multiplayer).
2) The second problem I noticed is when switching on the Ps3 the XMB menu was an illuminous green colour (not just the colour, but like a borked picture green where nothing was visible. I was able to shutdown the system and restart it .... when it next booted it was fine.
3) The last problem and most serious problem I have just noticed is that I was playing the Killzone 3 Beta, and I was running down some steps and some enemies were infront. All of a sudden a bunch of polygons started coming at me and the screen was full of polygons (artefacting) - i know what this looks like because i've seen it before on graphics cards. The system then froze and the controller was not responding either. I had to reboot it. So ...... should I be concerned? I would point out that I'd been playing on the PS3 for about 4-5 hours before problems 1 and 3 occurred...which might suggest that the Ps3 cannot handle the stress of games like UC2 and KZ3 for prolonged periods.

How hard is this to do if I bought online Amazon? Will i be waiting a few months for a replacement or will it be like 1-2 weeks?

Never had to send a console back, but I had a faulty CD at christams. A new one was ordered as soon as I had filled in the returns section of the website, and was sent via 1st class. Even though the original was free delivery.
Got it 2 days later. So for me it was fast, though for a console it may be more difficult.

I've had faulty motherboards and graphics cards before - the Graphics card was dead on arrival so I just got a refund and bought another.
The motherboard however developed the fault and so it had to be looked at by an engineer who confirmed the fault....took the entire summer holiday (i was not happy!!)

I'm having problems similar to this with my PS3, which is only about 3 months old ![]()
After installing the KZ3 beta, have experienced several freezes, needing me to remove the power cable out of my slim to get the system to actually shut off, as it wasn't reponsing to the button. It has problems bringing up the icons on the XMB, and several times it has'nt eve nbeen able to bring up the sign on to screen when I have multiple accounts on my system.
I have tried both a database rebuild and a file restore from the recovery menu, and I'm still suffereing with the same problems, whether thisis also due to the new updates I have no idea, but at the moment, the PS3 is practically unusable.

I bought my Ps3 320 GB slim in Nov.2010 and am experiencing the same issues, xmb icons take a long time to appear, certain games freeze or will not read at all, it's rendering my console almost unplayable, i restored the file system and rebuilt my database to no effect, i even did a full format and restore, nothing worked issues are still there, it only started doing this over the last two months, and it was gradual. I noticed that the disk stops spinning and the hdd access lights goes off just before freezing.

ThePGtipsy & EarAche84 I suggest you call up Sony to arrange for repair/replacement under warranty
mike-parkinson as you are not far out of warranty I suggest you try giving Sony a call.

do you knw ho much the repair costs? unfortunately, i have three small children at home (2-7) and my oldest scratched off the warranty sticker on the bottom side of the ps3, so no warranty for me...
