A flash of static and whirring sounds

Hi guys,

I have a PS3 slim 250GB - it's about 6 months old.  A few months ago it started making a rattling, whirring sound when playing certain games or any Blu Ray movies.  After doing some research online, I think it's the bearings in the fan that are loose.  I didn't think much more of it as it wasn't affecting the console in any other way.

Recently my console will flash a black screen, then show some static for a second before returning to the game / movie / iPlayer.  This is beginning to happen very frequently.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  The PS3 is connected to a 1080i TV via an HDMI cable.

Thanks in advance.

Re: A flash of static and whirring sounds

take it back while it's still under warranty! :smileyhappy:

No idea what is causing the problem, but you don't want it to get worse 7 months from now...

take backups and deactivate your account before returning - try the shop first, or failing that direct to Sony :smileyhappy:

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..

Re: A flash of static and whirring sounds

Thanks for the tip.  I'll contact the store to see if they'll exchange my console.  I'll post my results here.

The static / flashing problem could be the your tv changing resoloution as when your on the xmb it displays at 720p(mine did so i'll asume yours will be)and when i started a game it would change 1080i and cause the static / flashing. Or it could be a dodgy hdmi cable...

As for your other problem do what TTDeggs suggested and take it back...
