Having to have my PS3 Slim replaced as the one I had became really slow and sluggish, and even after a full format, it felt slow and games that were downloaded from the store tend to skip and freeze, so I'm guessing my hard drive was on it's way out.
Could this be because I had my PS3 hard drive half full with content? I also had made custom folders for my different PS3 games, and I had about 40 Music Albums on there that I had added custom art work to, and about 10GB of video.
Was there just too much on my hard drive for the PS3 top cope with, given all the different folders I had created? Surely your PS3 won't start playing up even if your hard drive is almost full?
Thanks

Your ps3 shouldn't slow down just because it was half-full of content, you shouldn't really experience significant slowdown at all.
Agreed even if the HDD is full of content it should not cause the unit slow down or freeze.
It is most likely an issue with the HDD its self. I would advise running through the safe mode options one by one, this should correct the issue.

After a full reformat the stuff that might have been scattered all over the disc should be pretty much in order.
I had some issues with GT5 and were listing the game data to see how much it was and whether to reinstall and so on. Just to get the patches together and calculate the amount of data took between 2-3 minutes. That tells a bit how slow it has become.
I have used up now 170G of 232G so it's starting to fill up. If heads needs to jump between many cylinders all the time to get one file together this takes time.
Asking for a defragment tool for PS3 I was reassured this is not needed. But that is not what I see.
And combining this with that backups now takes 4 times longer one wonders even more what is up.
Certain games produce massive amount of problems for people like endless loading and stuff.
Something is not right about the filesystem.
I would wait a while for a firmware update and see whether this goes away.
