Disc stuck, force eject not working

Hey all,

I searched the site and couldn't find my answer.

A couple of days ago my PS3 got the flashing red light of death while I was playing MLB 12.  I have called SONY and all that and basically I've decided to buy the new uncharted 320GB bundle rather than repair or refurbish (Actually I'm still kinda deciding haha).

My problem is I need to get MLB out of my 80GB dead ps3 and the force eject/fan test trick isn't working.  Basically I have my console powered off completely and my finger on the eject sensor.  Once I turn it on the fans don't even budge from what I can tell.  I'm thinking that its my fans that are broken.

Anyways is it my fan thats broken you think (which caused the overheating red flashing light I assume?) Is that why the fan cycle wont work and I can't get my game out? is there any other way of getting the game out without taking apart the console? And finally if it is a fan issue thats the problem, if I choose to repair it will SONY still wipe my HDD or will they send me my same fixed ps3 with my HDD the same.

Sorry if this is all a jumbled mess... I was multi tasking at the time I typed this.

Re: Disc stuck, force eject not working

Hi kurbzz,

Unfortunately any console sent into our Service Centres in Australia or New Zealand - will have their HDDs reformatted for privacy reasons.

Any data that's not otherwise backed up, will be lost.

It sounds like you're trying the force eject correctly.

Just to clarify the process:

With your (40GB/80GB only) console, once plugged in, hold your finger on/over the 'eject' on the front of the console. Turn the switch at the back left, to 'On' - you should hear the fans kick in loudly for 20 seconds.

You may need to do this a second time.

If the fans do not turn on (or do not turn on for long) - there may be a power issue which will prevent this (and it could be an internal or external power issue)

If your console reverts to a flashing red light, this will mean generally there is an overheating issue.

Again, this could be externally or internally caused.
