Error 8002F1F9

[ Edited ]

I had my ps3 connected through ethernet to the Internet as usual and I tried to install the latest system update. At 32-33% the update procedure stops and a 8002F1F9 error pops up. I tried turning it off and letting it unplugged for a couple of hours but nothing changed. I have restarted it several times now and still nothing. Is there anything I could do? At least a way to escape out of the update loop?

I have tried this too, but since my ps3 starts and immediately goes to the system update installation nothing happened.

You'll have to use safe mode, option 6 to install:

I tried activating saving mode but at step 3.3 after the double beep the system just goes to the system update installation screen again instead of asking me to connect the usb controller.

Hi Angerbanjo,

When you now start the console up does it go straight to the System software update screen? If so, do you have the ability to put the latest system software update on a USB stick and have this in the console ready as it may try and install from here.

Hi ASlimShadyLurkin,

I've had a look at the video, I'm not sure specifically what would be preventing the update from completing (in relation to the Bluetooth board mentioned).

All I'm aware of is that the code is an indicator of the PlayStation 3 failing to update correctly. In this instance the recommended troubleshooting is the following:

  • If installing by a game disc, make sure the disc is free of scratches. Then reboot the system and run the update again.
  • If installing via USB (or external storage), redownload the update file and try again.
  • If installing from the system try rebooting the system and trying again.

However if you have tried different methods and still encounter problems the other thing I would try is plugging the console directly into the modem (if you haven't already) and updating from here. Sometimes going through a router or using wireless on rare occasions can cause the update file not to go through properly. Factors such as dropped data packets and firewalls on routers may block certain information crucial to the system software. This can cause the update to stop at certain points.

Let me know how you get on,

Rabid
