External Hard Drive

I have a 500 GB WD External HD but my 40GB PS3 system will not pick it up. I have tried reformatting it to FAT32 but my laptop will only format it to exFAT32. Which still was not picked up by my PS3.
I was wondering if it is just the HD and should i get one more suited?

convert it to full fat theres quite a few for free downloads (i downloaded a hp thing)

on your laptop, download either swissknife, or google for "hp fat32 format"

(swissknife is good but doesn't run in Vista or Win7)
