FastCAT5 Connection to BT HomeHub 2.0

Hi guys,

Sorry for sounding stupid but I am so confused as to why a wired connection CAT5 bought today plugged into my Homehub 2.0 is much slower than the wireless connection I had previous ???

The fastest i have got through wired is 1.1mb I have an 8mb line and have full speed almost all time on PC which is also hard wired in to router.

I used auto set up for the wired conenction on ps3 as not sure how to do all the IP stuff but I'm kind of dissapointed as i thought it would be much easier than setting up wireless.

I tried to d/l a game demo and boy it was slow.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Re: FastCAT5 Connection to BT HomeHub 2.0

where did the 1.1mb result come from?
if it was the speed test result from the end of the connection setup - it's not very reliable :smileywink:

point your PS3 browser at www.speedtest.net and record the result.
switch your PS3 back to wireless (unplug the cat5 cable first :smileywink:)
re-run the speedtest.net test

compare the result and let us know

At very BEST, wireless should only ever be AS fast as wired, even if the PS3 is sitting right on top of the router

And we weren't even testing for that..

Re: FastCAT5 Connection to BT HomeHub 2.0

Cheers mate,

I did the test on Speednet through the PS3 browser and I got 7860kbps which I gather is just under 8mb?

Much happier now, I did notice that my media streaming is so much faster from the pc to ps3 now. Still was pretty slow d/loading dante inferno demo though ???

Cheers again :smileywink:

Re: FastCAT5 Connection to BT HomeHub 2.0

very welcome :smileyhappy:
and yes, that is a bit under 8Mb

d/l stuff from PSN is often more affected by the speed of PSN and the servers (and how many people are trying to d/l stuff at the same time from around the SCEE area) than your connection - which isn't great, but at least it is a Sony problem, not an issue with your end :smileyhappy:
