I think it could be the update that has done this as we are difinately not the only ones with this problem.
My 2 yr old Slim started acting funny the second time I rebooted after the 4.10 update.
For a few days now when I tried to turn it on via the controller, it turned off immediately and had the red blinking LED light. But if you held the button on the front it would start.
I have just tried to turn it on tonight... and nothing.
It all lights up for a second, the drive tries to read a disc, makes a clicking noise then turns off.
I get a split second of green light then yellow, then blinking red.
NOT HAPPY

I have had the same problem. with a release day model.
Called ps support guy was pretty useless to be honest and said something has gone wrong inside...
I was also told playstation do not do repairs????
this true? If so sony should learn somthing from xbox cant get any data back as the HHD is encrypted.
So my 100 hours of skyrim and the disc have been lost...
so much for the 10 year support you are supposed to get when buying a £500 console!!!!
Sony, microsift just took a massive ***** on you mums ***** today!!!!!
