Flashing Red Light after 4.10 update

[ Edited ]

I updated my PS3 today. 1 hour or so after my Ps3 turns itself off mid-game and the red pwer indicator light starts flashing red.

Now whenever I turn my PS3 on it stays on for 2-3 minutes before turning itself off and the indicator lights starts blinking.

It's a 60GB launch model with an upgraded HDD. Ths is the first time I've run into this issue.

Funny how I was just contemplating buying a Slim to avoid tiring out old fattie and losing the 60GB's capabilites.

Do you see a yellow light at any point? (even if very briefly)

Re: Flashing Red Light after 4.10 update

there is a guide to the lights on the front of the PlayStation 3 and what they mean (with illustrations) which may be of some help:

Re: Flashing Red Light after 4.10 update

Same isue here. My PS3 has the flashing red light after I tried to upgrade to 4.10. I have an old PS3 US version that has backward compatibility. I have not tried to contact Sony yet, but 100% sure, it's upgrade made my PS3 to fail.

Now the yellow light shows up as well. Well, drat.

I'm going to try reflowing and adding flux to the thing in hopes of ressurecting it for long enough to transfer my data over to the new slim I ordered(mission accomplished, Sony :smileytongue: )

Re: Flashing Red Light after 4.10 update

Well, I bought a new ps3. My old one was 6 years old and I realized that the excessive heat from 6 years of running was too much for it. I used the hair drier trick and then put the ps3 in the refrigerator. It worked. I was able to transfer the whole old drive to a new one. I will be selling the old ps3 befero it dies again. I know game stores buys them only if they are running.

Re: Flashing Red Light after 4.10 update

Another victim after the update, managed to get skyrim out but no luck getting the unit to turn on. No problems in 4 previous years and it suddenly dies about 30mins of the 4.10 update, suspicious? I won't be getting a new one out of principle, might try a 360 as the only reason i was with ps3 is reliability.
