good little guide, maybe the mods should make this a sticky
also a good price for your old unit, YLOD ones seem to go for more than dead Bluray ones on Ebay, maybe because they shouldn't need new parts to fix

Hot, the hottest setting possible.

this sounds like a 12 year old came up with this hair dryer idea... but I didn't see any other choice
- had a 20GB that went bad, didn't recognize disks. so I paid $150 USD for a refurb 20gb piece of crap that got the YLOD on 25 Feb.
- Ordered a 120gb Slim on amazon the next week, and then looked for ways to get my data back.
- Tried the hairdryer method earlier, didn't work --- Because I didn't have the console upside down when I blewdry it.
- Tried again upside down, and it worked; (Hottest setting from 2 inches away for 15 minutes. Then cooled it for 30 minutes by window)
- I am now transfering data
if there's anyone else skeptical like me, it IS just crazy enough to work!
