Hardrive upgrade

I had an old 40gb PS3 but I upgraded the hardrive to a 500gb hardrive. Now I'm going buy a new PS3 and I wanted to know if I could just take out my old 500gb hardrive and just put it into the new PS3 and have all my old saves and stuff on it?

Please use plain text.

Re: Hardrive upgrade

No, HDD is tied to the PS3 that formatted it. If you put it into a different PS3 it will wipe all the data.

You could use the data transfer facility to move data from current machine to new one if the HDD in the new PS3 is large enough.

Alternatively you could backup to a USB drive and then restore to the HDD in the new machine (this could be the 500gb from your current machine - a bit risky if it doesn't work as you'll lose the original data). Backup & restore won't cope with copy protected saves.

If you have PS+ all saves can be transferred via the online storage.
