Having A Bit Of A HDMI Problem Please Help

Hi there I got a new TV last week which Is a 23Inch LCD HD Ready Humax TV. Right I can used my HDMI with my PS3 without any problems at all and I can see the xmb on my tv. Now when I load a PS3 game up my tv screen It stays blue without seeing the game on my tv screen. Now If I turn my tv off and then turn my tv on again I then can see my games then without any problems. Also It happens when I quit the game back to the xmb etc. Everything else works great beside that Is this a common problem with my PS3 acting funny or this Is normal? Thanks for your time reading this and I do hope to hear soon.

Re: Having A Bit Of A HDMI Problem Please Help

When you start a game or quit back to xmb, the signal switches for a nano-second. Since the xmb and games have seperate display settings, so the Ps3 quickly switches between them.

It sounds like your tv loses the Ps3 signal when this happens.

You could try locking your Ps3 games and the XMB to the same resolution by unchecking all the display boxes bar one you're happy with. I'm guessing from your set size, 720p will be the best resolution (it's better than 1080i - so uncheck it if thats currently in use).

I think however that even at the same resolution, the Ps3 will still do a screen refresh which may cause the tv to lose sync again.

I'm not sure if this will help, but at least now you have a reason =]

This problem does crop up from time to time and it's not just the Ps3, it can happen with any AV device.

Another problem that can occur is sometimes TV's don't like signals that produce intesne bright flashes, like explosions and things in games. This was a problem for some people with nintendo Wii's running zelda through compnent cables on an HDTV. Zelda had several very bright fades to white from time to time and on certain TV's, this caused exactly the same problem you have whereby it loses sync with the signal.

HDTV's are unfortunately a little more complicated than they market themselves, and all sorts of compatibility issues can crop up with the variety of devices people plug into them nowadays... the only thing I can suggest is doing a bit of research in advance, or checking with the store about their returns policy if you run into issues!

Re: Having A Bit Of A HDMI Problem Please Help

I think my games are working fine now after I switched to 720p and unchecked the other settings and also I turn off the cross colour reduction filter. That blue screen don't come on a lot anymore now thanks to you :smileyhappy: So my tv does that then and Its not a common problem at all then?

It's not hugely common no, but it does happen to some people.

Best thing is not to worry too much, it's not a fault, just an unfortunate syncing issue that some tv's and devices are prone to.

Most importantly though, glad it helped!
