'Invalid Format' Message

5 Replies 23,802 Views Created 19-10-2010

My PS3 was working fine, connected to my LG Plasma by HDMI cable. Put it on yesterday and just got black/blank screen with 'invalid format' message moving around the screen? It will still play some games but not all, and as soon as I exit the game it goes back to the problem.

Tried a different HDMI cable and it came good.  If HDMI cable is broken, why will it play some games?

Any info/advice appreciated

if you hold down the on button when turning on the PS3 until it beeps once, this will then reset the video to the minimum resolution (Standard Definition) and you should be able to see the menu.

It'll ask you if you want to output using HDMI, press the PS button and select X. You should be able to figure it out from there :)

Hey dxb12345, Welcome to the forums!

Does your TV support 1080p? - Sounds to me like it doesn't support 1080p, but soon as games launch which are 720p the TV is recognising it.
