Loss of resolution from 1080 to 576

Hey,

I've had my ps3 since christmas and it has worked fine showing 1080 resolution through a HD cable until one day when i turned it on and the sceen was blank.

To fix this I held down the power button until the 2nd beep and managed to get a picture but it now only plays SD on the XMB, games and videos. No settings had been changed on the TV or the ps3 and changing the HD cables made no difference.

I noticed when it detects the HD cable and attempts to optimize the settings my TV changes its resolution to 1920x1080 (shown in a display box) but the screen just remains blank for 30 secs until resetting back to SD.

Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like one of 2 things, either your HDMI cable is stuffed, however I imagine it wouldn't work at all in that case or your TV has an issue.  Have you checked the display settings on the PS3?  Perhaps the other resolutions have been unchecked somehow.

2 ways to check - both need a close friend with a PS3 and an 1080 TV though :smileyhappy:

take your PS3 round to their house, and plug it into their TV, using their leads.

If you are able to get 1080 (i or p) to work, then use your HDMI lead and repeat the test :smileyhappy:

this will tell you where the problem is :smileyhappy:

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..
