I recently bought mercenaries 2 and when I got home and put it in the game froze so I thought it was the disc so I bought another and it froze a 2nd time at the exact same bit 

does anyone know what's happening and how I can fix it

Its when the game attempts to connect to the game servers and fails it causes a freeze only way round it is play the game signed out of Playstation Network.

Not 100% sure what state the game servers are in nowadays whether there unmaintained or off according to EA Games only the PC servers are officially retired maybe the PS3 ones are now list of shutdown servers in the link.

I had the same thing - returned the game.

If you you are satiesfied with SP gaming - just disconnect internet and it will work fine.

Online it freezes.

I was in contact with EA then and there is no patch coming for this.

And as said - servers are gone for this game.

I have done an experiment with Mercs 2 the servers are still online players can connect as long has they have previously connected to the game servers before a certain date.

It appears new players to the game can't connect unfortunately so the only option to play the game is to play signed out Playstation Network to avoid system freezing when trying to connect to the game servers.

Two accounts on my system can connect successfully this account and another i use when friends and family visit and fancy an online game both previously connected to Mercs 2 just tried my girlfriends account that can't connect successfully to Mercs 2 without freezing the system so unfortunately the games not allowing new players online access.

Hi MILLS211,

I believe the servers for this game have been taken offline, however I will raise this issue to be looked into if the attempt to connect online is causing the issue you mention.

Hi RabidWalker

The game servers are still online its just not connecting for new players like i mentioned above two accounts that have previously played connected i could check leaderboards and find players in a search for games.

I tried on the girlfriends account as soon as the game attempts to connect to EA servers the PS3 freezes up there is definitely an issue allowing new players to Mercenaries 2 EA should sort this out server side.

According to their previous server shutdowns only the PC version of Mercenaries 2 have been retired but maybe new player server registration has been disabled.

hi,it's about onnline problem if you have Medal of Honor Airborne or other EA title register to EA servers and then try play mercs 2
