Re: The Fix

Hi, Has anyone seen a definitive fix for this problem? I have had a Play Tv for a few months and have had the same problems - twice!! Apart from deleting my saved data and basically reloading the software, I haven't found any other solutions.

I am also concerned that this will keep occurring and given the number of people with similar issues, I gather that this is a fault with Play TV.

Re: PLAY TV will not start and machine crashes

I also called them up- I was told that it is a bug that supposedly is affecting all the updated playtvs out there.

Thay have no idea when it  will be fixed and reccommend that you uninstall it (thus deleting all your recordings) and reinstall playtv. DO NOT UPDATE.

I find it ironic that an "update" actually makes playtv unusable, also the series link feature is useless, it recorded 4 of the same episodes in one week for me.

Good job Sony.

Re: PLAY TV will not start and machine crashes

Just tried to load PlayTV and its now just hanging at the loading screen. This happens once in a blue moon, but now i've tried at least 20 times and it just wont load. Theres no way i'm deleting at least 2 years worth of recordings and find out it still doesn't work. The only reason I still use my ps3 is for playtv.

Re: PLAY TV will not start and machine crashes

Same thing has just happened to me. Freezes on the splash screen, even though I have plenty (~120GB of free space). Unplugging the box has no effect, it still won't load. Just deleted all settings and recordings, and now loads.

Have had PlayTV for a year with no real problems. Paid £6 to upgrade to the newest version (which is quite steep for a series link function - let's face it, chat is useless) and, a fortnight later, I have now had to delete all my recorded programs; fantastic!

Re: PLAY TV will not start and machine crashes

Hi there

I am having exactly the same issue since paying for the enhanced features, the first a couple of weeks ago, I had to delete all my playtv settings and lost all my recordings.  The same thing has just happened again, not happy.

As we have have PAID for this mess Sony really need to get this sorted ASAP please.

[ Edited ]

Great, just got in to find this exact problem with PlayTV. I have also updated to latest patch (just for the series link). I struggled to justify the price for the features I would use but after missing a recording of a show I decided to go for it. Really starting to wish I hadn't bothered.

I had had no issues with PlayTV. I had a Fat 60Gb from launch which was stolen in a burglary and a PlayTV which I replaced with a 250Gb PS3 Slim and brand new PlayTV (which was also nicked).

Since I updated it I have had nothing but issues and irritations. Firstly I once came in to find it had recorded 150+ "Match of the Day's" all empty but listed. (no it hadn't recorded the programme). Took me a while to delete all those. Fed up with it constantly needing me to logon to PSN or cancel the connection request. Also I actually think the series link has been developed with problems. Now this!!

I have managed to getting it working by deleting all my programmes 85Gb worth. Just great!!

Re: The Fix

Same thing for me -I bought the update - worked fine for a while, then started glitching. This morning it froze on load-up. Like everyone else I reinstalled PlayTV v1-0, which got it working again. Then I installed the update again and it failed to load again.

So looks like I've lost all of my recordings for the past 2 years - very annoying!!!!  The good news is that it looks as if they're still store on the Hard Drive as there doesn't appear to be any more space available. Hopefully they can release an update which can locate/access them.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I hadn't paid for this. Hope they figure this out soon!!!

Re: The Fix

Same thing happened to me last night :smileysad: It's been working since applying the update and then last night it got stuck at the startup splashscreen. After some digging on the internet I uninstalled/renstalled PlayTV, losing all 130Gb of recorded programmes, Ver 1.0 worked fine, applied the upgrade to 2.02 and it started freezing again. Repeated the process 2 more times and each time as soon as the upgrade is applied the software stops working. Essentially we've paid good money for something that now breaks what was a useful piece of kit. So the question is, who do we need to speak to about getting a refund ?

Re: The Fix

I've just deleted all recordings made over the Xmas period becasue this Piece of S of an upgrade caused Play to lock up for about the 8th time since I PAID for the update.

Takes the effing P and I've had enough of this crap.

Can anyone please recommend me a decent Freeview solution with series link and a hard disk? Bye bye Sony.

Re: The Fix

I'm pretty sure this is a bug stemming from a system update that happened on or around 21 Dec 10. It is effecting everyone with the latest PlayTV software and had paid for the series record feature. After trying a few of the fixes suggested I found that the only way to get my PlayTv to work again is to reinstal 1.0 PlayTV software from the disc and not to update the PlayTv to the current version. I lost all my recordings doing so but it now works. I guess Sony will recognise the bug and patch it but that is likely to take at least a few weeks so I will try to update in 3-4 weeks time to see if it works
