PS2 classics controller problems.

Yesterday, playing Max Payne, I decided to quit the game. Upon booting back into XMB, the controller would not sync. It'd work wired in, but not wireless. I googled this, and it's quite easy to see it's a common problem. After quitting a PS2 classic, you have to hard reset your PS3 to re-sync the controller. I found this out after using the reset button on the back of the controller and it not working. It's easy to see this is a common problem with a google search so I'm wondering when that will be fixed.

But that's not why I'm posting. I continued enjoying Max Payne (great game), but the last time I quit the game, I tried a hard reset and the controller still wouldn't start. I tried plugging it in for a while, resetting it multiple times, but it refuses to start. No flashing red lights or nothing, the controller is effectively a paperweight.

I take good care of my controllers so I can only conclude that the PS2 emulator did it, seeing as it had troubles with controllers in the first place. Is there anyway I can fix the controller, or get a replacement? Cheers.

Re: PS2 classics controller problems.

Hold the reset pin on the back of the controller for a bit and try pairing again. What model of PS3 are you using? I have this issue too. (re: controllers), though a soft reset using the front power button will usually suffice.

That's the thing /: I tried resetting the controller from the back, which didn't work, I tried holding it for ten seconds, still didn't work. After quitting Max Payne and having the "Press the PS button" notification, it refused to start and hasn't worked ever since. I managed to sync the other controller after resetting the PS3, but my primary controller... nothing.

I left it for two days plugged in, and unplugged, in the hope it'd magically come to life, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere so I decided to post for help. Maybe there is a button combination to force it to turn on, or I might need it replaced... and if that's the case I'm really hoping Sony provide a replacement because the controllers cost NZD$110, which is like the equivalent of £50-55...

Re: PS2 classics controller problems.

If it won't start, the only thing you can do is try holding reset for 30 seconds, then connecting via USB and pressing PS while the system is on.

Other than that your controller is a gonner. :smileysad:

You could try calling Customer Support, though I'm unsure whether they have warranty on controllers. Can't hurt to try! :smileyhappy: The numbers for each region are here.

Re: PS2 classics controller problems.

Sweet, I'll give that a shot, thanks. (I think it should be replaced either way though, since I'm confident their emulator made it unusable.)

Just earlier, my PS3 randomly rebooted into safe mode while I was using it and asked me to re-install 4.11. Was quite strange, maybe that's related to this. hmm.
