it might be worth decreasing your MTU size.

In network settings, choose manual, and skip through the screens until you get to MTU, which will probably be set at auto.
change this to 1400, skip to end and save.

try download.

repeat, decreasing MTU by about 100 each time, until you get a reliable download connection.

If you get to about 500 and it still isn't helping, this is probably not the issue, and you may as well set it back to auto again.

But it does stand a good chance for being the cause

I have fixed the problem by backing up the hard drive to an external hard drive in Settings-> System settings-> Backup utility-> backup. IMPORTANT! Don't forget to deactivate your system in account management. After that, go to Settings-> System settings -> Restore PS3 System (This also formats your hard drive). When this is done, restore the backup using the previous mentioned Backup utility. You can now reactivate your account and everything should be back to normal. At least for me it was.

If your using  one of them wireless usb sticks you are going to encounter problems ,because they lose connection all the time,so once you lose connection you pretty much have to start again.get cable

This started happening to me today while downloading section 8 trail.Stops at 943mb no matter what I download. It starts lagging the XMB,and keeps getting freezes.Once I pause,or delete the download,the XMB work fine again.really annoyed,I've got over 150 gb of content that needs downloading if I wipe the HDD.Not happy.

Lol,it's done it again 2.47gb into Kingdoms Of Amular.And like the last time,I was opening a new page with it's browser.Here we go again GT5 update/instalation. After this,and 60gb failures,I think i'm done with future PS hardware.

I am getting the same problem recently. All my downloads from the PS Store stop downloading at 120 mb. I have connected the ps3 directly to my cable modem so it is not a router problem. I have shut down media sharing and still doesn't work. I am about ready to restore my system.
