Hi.  I bought FFXIII today, and decided to play it.  I entered it into my playstation 3, 120gb model (which has seen almost no use, maybe 30 hours or less), and the machine will run fine for between 15 seconds and 1 minute, then it will turn off.  When it turns off, it is unable to be turned back on, without either removing the AC line from the back of the machine and re-entering it, or switching the power off/on at the wall.  I have not got it plugged into a power board, its directly into the ac socket.  It's worked fine all times before now.  I tried to download the 3.15 firmware update via WiFi, but the problem persists, not allowing me to complete the download.  Thinking it might have been the game disc, i removed it, and left the disc drive empty, but the problem still persists.  I have tried other appliances in the power socket, ruling out the socket itself as the issue.  I have also checked the power cable to the PS3, and it appears to be in immaculate condition.  No warning LED illuminates on the PS3 when it turns off.  I just went back after half an hour since the last time the power switched itself off, and i still had to remove the AC cord and plug it back in to make it start back up, after doing so the playstation turned off again within 40 seconds.

Any ideas? Please help!

Have you tried another Power cable?

I Changed the Power Cable, after waking up this morning.  The ps3 lasted long enough to download the update, and apply about 30% of it (around 5-7 minutes total) and then shut off again, requiring me to remove the AC plug and reconnect before i could turn it on again.  When it turned back on, the update started to apply again, and made it to 3% before the ps3 shut itself off, again, requiring the power connection to be removed/inserted again.

I Contacted Sony's customer support team this morning, and have been told that this is a console fault, and will be covered under warranty.

I having same problem! I have a 120gb slim

my playstation loses power in under 5 minutes and turns off. but it doesnt just turn off because there is not even a off light so i have to disconnect the power cord and reconnect it again and turn it on but it tends to do the same thing again.

only problem for me is that mine is just out of warranty
