Morning all

I purchased a PS3 Slim 250GB from HMV yesterday. I installed all the games I had on to console, update them to their latest patches etc etc. After playing all afternoon I thought I would play some Assassins Creed 2, but I noticed that the game sound was going out of sync every so often, so this as would to anyone, annoyed me. I thought it could be because I had the console on all afternoon so I turned it off and came back to it last evening. But I tried to click on a message sent by a friend it it took about six seconds to load. (Yes, I know that's not a lot in time, but for a PS3, this is a long time.) I also noticed all of the icons trying to load took a long time as well.

So I tried Assassins Creed 2 again. The problem was still there. So I tried Uncharted 2, but the game won't even load now. The only game that seems to work is Modern Warfare 2.

I have restored all of the PS3 Settings from the PS3 Safe Menu. (Restore Default Settings, Restore File System, Restore Database, Restore PS3 System. Done in this same order) and yet it seems to have fixed the 'slow' menu icons but not Assassins Creed 2 or Uncharted 2. Yet Modern Warfare 2 works fine.

What should I do? Should I return this to HMV and ask for a new PS3 Slim? Or should I contact Sony about this? Although the guy at the counter did say I did have the last one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there.

I see you've already had a good dig around in the PS3 Recovery/Safe Menu which is good.

The only thing I can recommend is to delete the game installs for AC2 and Uncharted 2; see if that changes anything. To do so:

1) On the XMB, scroll to the 'Game' tab.
2) Locate and expand the 'Game Data Utility' folder.
3) Locate the respective install files for U2 & AC2.
4) Delete them.
5) Load up the games again, re-install and see if it changes anything.

You shouldn't have that much bother with a new machine mate, i'd suggest taking it back to the shop and getting a new one. I had no problems with my 250GB when I got it and that was after restoring all my stuff from my dead 60GB to it.

I have tried this about four times, and it still does not work.

that might be my only choice. What would happen if I phoned Sony about this? Would they repair this or send me a new one?

I have borrowed some games from some friends.

Quantum of Solace works fine. No problems.
Far Cry 2 works fine. No problems.
Call of Duty 4 works fine. No problems
Battlefield Bad Company works fine. No problems.
Metal Gear Solid 4 works fine. No problems.

I have also tried a number of Blu-Ray films and DVDs. They all work fine.

Hmm, have you tried your AC2 and U2 on your friends' machines? It might be those discs.

That's what I thought. I will try and give that a go today and see if there is any changes.

Cool. If they work on a mate's then i'd definitely take the PS3 back to the store and ask for a replacement.

Well I guess this is bad news (Or good news in a certin way) They worked fine. No problems at all. So I shall phone up HMV tomorrow and see if I can get a replacement for it. If they don't have one, I guess I shall have to get a refund and go somewhere else
