Ever since my 60GB PS3 YLOD I've been suspicious of any noise my new PS3 slim makes so this may be just me over reacting however.
Just recently the PS3 has started making a sort of 'clicking' noise, sounds kinda like the HDD on a PC (oh btw i have changed the HDD when i first got it), when this happens it causes the game to stutter. Any ideas of what this could be?

Just sent my ps3 120gb in to Sony to be serviced. All of my friends own the 250gb model, and they've never had this issue, so I don't really have another 120gb to compare it to. Though everyone's description of the issue seems to be coming from a 120gb. I was told by a GameStop rep that it's just the heat generated and its causing the plastic cover to expand/contract. In my mind, if somethings hot enough to be able to do that something's wrong in general. The sound itself seems to be coming from the same place, on the mid-left side where the HDD is. I hope there isn't a flaw in the 120gb HDD thats causing the reader to hit the disc, or the disc coming to a sudden halt.
I didn't really have the problem when i first purchased my PS3 a few months back, but as soon as i started downloading content, and adding files/music/game data is when i first heard the noise. We'll see what Sony has to say...

yes i have this too, it happens when the casing of the PS3 starts to expand when it heats a little under operation, and then again when it colds down after shutdown, its normal, don't worry.

That just doesn't make sense to me. The slim runs cooler than the orignal, yet it's still hot enough to expand the hard plastic casing? Also, friends w/ the 250gb don't experience the problem. All forums I've searched involve the 120gb.
The Sony tech reps can't even give you a run-down of what's been done to the console to date, all they can say is that they've received the system and it'll be shipped out w/in 7-10 business days. I feel like asking for a floor manager when I call, but figure I'd get the same info....
...-sigh-we'll see what happens; fingers crossed...

I have a fairly new 250 gb model and it makes the clicking noise all the time especially after I've turned it on, during dowloads or while playing discs. I've read a lot of posts about this so it seems pretty common. It sounds like it's the case expanding and contracting because of heat from the fan. I have had no hardware issues. The system runs great otherwise.
