PS3 Turning off Randomly

Hi there,

I purchased a brand new PS3 Slim 160GB from Amazon and have had it for three days.

Straight away I have a problem with it.

On the first day, after around 6 hours of playing, it switched off. I mean comletley off, there wasnt even a standby light on. To fix this I pressed the on button. This brought back the standby light, then pressing it again would turn the playstation back on.

This has now turned into a regular occurance.

I have tried various things from, turning AC adapter the other way round to having it in different positions and areas.

I don't think it is a heating problem because today it has done it 3 times in a row without even fully loading a game.

I have tried swapping my AC adapter with my brothers who has the same model but that didnt help. I have tried plugging it directly into the wall instead of on an extention cord, to no avail. I have run out of ideas but dont fancy having to send it back to amazon for a replacement.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: PS3 Turning off Randomly

You need a few towels, a bobby pin and a soldering iron. Firstly wrap the x...wait.

NO SORRY, I thought I was somewhere else. Just get a new one through amazon.

Oh dear. I wouldn't try that! ^

It sounds like your power supply unit inside the console is becoming tempermental. This isn't a user servicable part and is pretty dangerous to play about with. You're best off giving Sony a call if you're under warranty and they'll be able to replace the console for you for free! :smileyhappy:

You can get the number for customer support in your region here.

If the console is out of warranty then sony can replace it but will charge around £130 for the priveledge, so you may be cheaper off buying another or seeing if somewhere like GAME or GameStation can fix it for you.

(Once again, I strongly advise against doing any repair work yourself as you'll risk damaging the internal components, and yourself and will invalidate any warranty you may have!)
