PS3 freezing during game/loading

I'm having a problem with my playstation 3 when I'm playing FF13-2 (it could happen for other games but I haven't tried).  The PS3 turns on fine and the game loads up fine.  I can load my save data have it go into the game but when I try to load a level, the game freezes during the load.  On the rare occasion I can get into the game (which has been twice out of 15 times), I'll freeze after battle or during a cutscene.

 

The only way to turn off the PS3 is to hold down the power button and reset the system.
