PS3 slim freezes on certain games, not overheating

Hi,

I am the owner of a about 4 years old 120Gb PS3 slim, CECH-2003A. Two years ago my console started freezing suddenly, and I stopped playing. But few days ago I decided to repair it. So first I thought it's overheating, so i changed the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, no effect. Then I modded the fan to be sure it's not the overheating problem. The fan is running at max speed, and the console is totally COLD.

Next I thought the hdd is broken, so I connected it to my PC and ran it through HD Tune for errors - no errors to be seen. I borrowed a hdd from my buddys PS3, reformated it, PS3 still crashes.

The strangest thing is that I changed the AC cord for a day, and it didnt freeze for 24hrs. But the next day it started again. So i took it to my buddy's and tried his cords, didn't help.

I tried disconnecting the net, and all usb devices - no luck.

When I'm trying to play my Guitar Hero 5 all I get is a permanent yellow loading circle at the beginning. It's not the disc fault, because it runs smoothly on my buddy's system. Then I tried disconnecting the blu-ray and running games from hdd. And guess what - THEY FREEZE.

The most odd part is that Fallout 3 doesn't freeze. I can play for hours without a problem. The same applies to Fifa11, but every other game crashes. I can't go into XMB (except GH5, there is this yellow circle but I can press the PS button) and the hard disk yellow light stops blinking (wifi green light still flashes).

Can it be the power module? I have no idea what to do. Oh and my warranty is no longer a choice.

That sounds really odd. There probably isn't anything that you could do to fix it but you could try going into safe mode and restoring your system or something but i am not guaranteeing anything. But make sure you back up your files if you haven't already and if you want your files. Good Luck :smileyhappy:
