PS3 stopped reading discs...

So I bought Twisted Metal and started playing it on my 80gb PS3.

It has a lot of freezing issues and sometimes it shuts off the PS3 all together while playing. I tested a number of other PS3 games and they never do anything like Twisted Metal shutting the console down or freeze issues.

But this morning I wake up with the game still in the console and I pressed the power button ready to play and then, Nothing happens....XMB is up, top right corner of the screen is rotating showing that its trying to read the disc but nothing shows up, games, dvds, nothing. It won't recognize the disc.

What the hell sony? Is Twisted Metal disigned to screw up your ps3 so we have to purchase repairs or buy a new console?...I'm so ***** off this morning. $120 worth of new games, and now im going to have to pay $250 just to get a new console to PLAY my new games. Might not even go with another PS3 this time around.

Re: PS3 stopped reading discs...

Join the club, there is a lot of us having trouble with discs not reading at the minute.

It's not Twisted Metal's fault though, it was update 4.10. I'm not too sure if the quickly released 4.11 was meant to fix the problem but it didn't. This is my 4th PS3 that has turned itself into a paperweight

I don't know karate....but I know kah-razy

Re: PS3 stopped reading discs...

Hey, first off might be worth checking a few of the things listed in the link below:

http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Technical/Discs-are-not-loading-in-my-PlayStati...

After that, if it's a software error then safe boot mode option 4, rebuilding the database, might solve the error - this is most likely what Sony Tech Support will advise you to try.

All the info is in the link below, although it's worth highlighting that there could be implications in choosing the wrong option.

Equally, it's a good idea to back up any saved data/media just in case something goes wrong, either onto a USB stick or external HDD :smileyhappy:

If it's a hardware error then you can either attempt it to fix the problem yourself (a new drive goes for around £70), get a third party repair (£70 at consoledoctor.co.uk), get a refurbished equivalent console from Sony (usually £110) or opt for a new slim (around £190 depending on the store).

Hi there,

Twisted Metal hasn't been released in Europe yet so unfortunately I can't say what the issue may be here. I don't know if other users have encountered issues with the game at all?
