ive checked the web and found that alot of people are having similar troubles but no real answers. 

My ps3 wont play some blu ray movies and i have no idea why. it works with 'Gamer' and afew others but recently my girlfriend

bought the twilight movies on blu ray and neither twilight or new moon worked so, im getting the ear ache from her because of it.

anybody have any ideas on how i can sort this? maybe something in the settings which needs changing? 

i have disabled the 'BD 1080p 24Hz Output (HDMI)' option as this fix worked for many people just not me. (TRY IT IF YOU HAVE A SIMILAR ERROR IT MAY WORK FOR YOU)

my consolde recognises the bluray, loads up but then... loses signal and i get a black screen. then have to switch my console off and back on again before i can do anything. 

please someone give me a fix for this

I think it was something to do with the copyright protection at 1080P resolution, whilst when played at 720P this didn't effect the playback/loading of the film. Try turning your display settings to 720P instead of 1080P and see if the film plays then.

not sure how to change to 720p though. my hdtv is fairly old. i did read alot of people had trouble with 'new moon' on bluray on ps3. im just worried if it happens to other blurays which i buy in the future.

like i said the current ones i have all work fine just not these two new ones

Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings
Choose HDMI then set your output to 720P as maximum, that might fix it for watching New moon. As you say your TV is a fairly old then it may only support 720P, so that option wouldn't be a viable solution for you. Also it could be that your older HDTV is having a problem with the copyright protection on the blu-ray. Some of the newer discs the studios have gone a little "gun ho" with their copyright protection. It can cause DRM issues with playback between some blu-ray players. Avatar was a prime example of this, an update to players firmware would fix that.
I wouldn't worry about future blu-rays you get being non playable if any are I'm sure a they would release a firmware update to support newer discs, you shouldn't find it effecting hardly any blu-rays you purchase. I've got over 40 and not had 1 problem with any, (I don't own any Twilight movies though )

I have the same problems but mine doesnt work for Zach and Miri Make a Porno and sometimes it wont load A-Team... they both just keep loading and loading and never get anywhere els

I,m getting the same problem . the screen comes up blank then a message states something about an encryption key.

Is this message produced by the PS3 or TV?

A clue is that the PS3 will display white bars across the top and bottom but the tv will look like the menu for your telly.
