I just bought a PS3 from my brother, it is a 160gb Slim, I bought a HDMI cable to use in conjunction with the PS3.
The poblem I am having is that the picture quality when streaming from my server is quite bad, the the credits etc seems blotchy and the actual videos seems as if you are watching a low quality video on youtube. The videos sometimes that bad that you see pixels popping around. Taking the same video and watching on my 360 and I have no problems.
I purchased Heavy Rain and played it and there was nothing wrong with it, so it would appear that its when streaming, when I converted my DVD collection to the server I made them AVI so the 360 could play them, so therefore them same videos should play fine on the PS3 and although they play they are not watchable. Any help would be appreciated.

never needed to, I am new to PS3, as I said don't have this problem on Xbox, I have tried Mp4's and they seem to be the same. Everything on PS3 seems to be fine, I haven't really changed any setting since my brother had it. Why would i need extra software? The PS3 see's the WHS computer, and can play files from it, it just doesnt seem to play the files properly.

Its ok, I think I have solve the problem. They are both on 1080p HD I have 4x HDMI slots 3x at the back and 1x on the side. I am using HDMI socket 1 and 2 on the back of the TV. Anyway it was nothing to do with the PS3 and more to do with the picture settings on TV. It seems like the settings on tv for HDMI2 were all messed up so I matched them to HDMI1 and seems to be fine.
Thanks strangeplaice for your help.
