I have recently got hold of a PlayTV and it works well apart from it constantly fails to tune in SBS and SBS2 whereas my tv tuner (A Samsung Led) has not difficulty.  I have had to disconnect as I do watch those stations.  Firstly, does anyone know how to fix this problem and secondly, is there any sort of cabling I could use so I can keep my tv tuner and PlayTV tuner also...currently I have to put aerial direct from wall to PlayTV and so to even just watch TV I have to have the PlayTV on.  I want to have both options and ideally, also have SBS2 and SBS so i can record them?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear of your issues with PlayTV.

It does sound like your issue is signal related - your normal set top box will likely have an inbuilt signal amplifier - whereas the PlayTV box does not - this will account for the differences you are seeing.

To best troubleshoot this, try using your PS3 and PlayTV at a different physical location (to rule out or confirm that it's related to signal)

If you think it may be related to the signal strength, you could try using a signal amplifier / booster - check with your local electronics store for best solution here.

In relation to being able to switch between TV and PlayTV, you'd need an RF / coaxial cable splitter - although this would weaken the signal by effectively splitting it in two.

You wont get SBS if your playtv region is not set to Australia.

I couldn't register for Australia as it only gave me the option of OTHER.  Maybe this is the problem?  I will try moving the PS3 and Play tv a litlte further away but the cable will only stretch a short way.  If that doesn't work, I will flog it on GumTree to someone who doesn't watch SBS and buy a dvd recorder!

Thanks for that pickup -

Double check your settings -> Once in PlayTV, navigate to Settings on the carousel menu.

Scroll down to Set-up -> Change Location (or you can choose Full Setup)

Updating PlayTV - the original version of PlayTV for Australia may not have Australia listed as a region option. (It is on the far left - when you see the "Choose Region" screen, you'll see UK, scroll left to see more options including Australia)

If Australia is not listed, then choose Other and scan channels and load PlayTV. Then, visit the carousel menu once again and choose Software Update (this may be in the Settings menu) - you'll need to have your PS3 connected to the Internet, via WiFi or Ethernet to your modem to be able to complete the update.

if u have got SBS working with play TV, u can get an amp to increase to signel strength and can also split the AR into tow diffrent devices. something like this

From the region select menu, go to the >LEFT< rather than cycling to the right (seems backwards to me too). Australia will be there.
