This error code is caused by a connection time out when attempting to connect to the Domain Name Server (DNS). If you are seeing this code you should check the following: • Do you have a working internet connection (can you connect successfully using a PC)? • Reconfigure your network settings (delete existing settings and create new ones) • Does your Internet Service Provider (ISP) prohibit access to secure pages as a default setting? (this may lead to failures when accessing system software updates) • Within network settings, is the Primary DNS being detected? If the ‘Primary DNS’ is displayed as 0.0.0.0 or is blank, the DNS is not being detected automatically. If this is the case you should contact your ISP and ask for the ISP’s DNS address. This DNS address should then be manually input into your network settings. Following all of these steps your PS3 should now be able to get online. About the DNS Servers Area. Just like to point out that there is two ways of findng your DNS Servers, they are from here:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/aboutyou.ch (bottom of page)

And by going:

> Start
> Run
> command
> ipconfig/all
Then the DNS Server(s) being at the bottom

Not as simple as that for us all im afraid.

As detailed in my other thread. I have had 2 different modems, and read detailed manuals for both of them. I have manually set different ip's, and dozens of different DNS settings. I have spoken to my isp, and spoken in detail to Sony Careline. I have still not managed to get the PS3 online, due to this error code, stating a DNS issue. I have literally spent hours over the last 2 weeks. Im beginning to thing the PS3 maybe faulty, although Sony deny this. They said if it is faulty then it would not manage to get the ip which it does. Any more idea's would be appreciated, and many thanks to Raven and others who have tried to help.

Does anyone know how to link a BT home hub to a Playstation 3 wirelessly? I could do with a step by step guide of where to find the correct information (I have been given 3 different IP addresses that all work fine). The main problem is with the DNS servers. I've found what appears to be the correct information but the internet connection test always fails and gives me the error code 80710102. Any help with this would be great as BT haven't even replied to my emails on this.

I also have the DNS Server issue. I've located my DNS Addresses but when I enter them into my PS3 they don't work, so what am I supposed to do?

Hey, I have done some looking around and alot of people cant get past there DNS part on the PS3 setup. The DNS Code comes from your ISP and you have to get it exactly right or your Internet connection wont work. These DNS Servers should be used if you are connecting through a cable modem. If you are using a router to connect through wirelessly or wired, please use the default gateway IP as your primary DNS Server and it should work. (These can also be used in your computer if you are experiencing slow or persisting internet problems.) So first off is a list of a few ISP's DNS Server addresses from the UK:

If your ISP is not there, you will have to look further into it. So lets do the thing i have typed many times on these forums: > Click on Start > Click Run > For XP users type in 'cmd' and for 98 users type 'command'. (Without the ' ') > In the DOS Box type ipconfig/all > You will see your DNS Server Address there. (You may see your Default Gateways IP there, try this. It may work but may not. Just depends on your ISP).

Still not working? Well here is another way to find a DNS Server: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/aboutyou.ch Go to that website, your DNS Server will be located at the bottom of the page. Try using that one in your PS3 aswell.

If it's not working now there last piece of advice from me. You will need to call your ISP and ask them for TWO of their DNS Server addresses. One for a “Preferred DNS Server” and one for a “Backup DNS Server”. The DNS Servers are part of the service you’re PAYING FOR, so don’t let them tell you they won’t tell you the addresses. If the person you’re talking to doesn’t understand what you’re asking for, or doesn’t want to give them to you, ask to speak to a supervisor. Also- DON’T say ANYTHING about “Static IP Address” to them. NEVER use those words when speaking to an ISP Support person. It will confuse them, and they may refuse to discuss it. They won’t understand what you need or why you’re asking. Just insist on knowing two DNS Server addresses. With these DNS Servers you should be able to get online. If you cant you will need to get a network specialist in as i cant help you any further. Thanks, Alias

Thanks for taking the time for giving people that info and for some im sure it will work. For me iv'e tried them all, contacted my ips (bt) and sony, and changed my modem and still cant get online. Iv'e given up on it now!!!

Well if you have a modem have you tried:

Turning the PS3 on with it plugged in
Turning the modem off, and then back on
Try to connect the PS3 with everything on auto?

Hey,
Ive had my Ps3 since launch but have not been able to get online (unless via a wired link which is very inconvenient) I have been trying to get online via WiFi, but it keeps giving me the error
"8013013D, An error has occurred"
I have no idea what this error is about, because it sometimes times out while trying to connect, others while trying to exchange the security key.

More information about my setup.
I have a Speedtouch 580 Wireless router, a WPA-PSK key on it. The connection works fine for my PSP, so I am quite lost as to what to do.

Also why does Sony not have its own technical support system for these sort of queries (or at least release a list of error codes and what they mean)
