I am trying to back up my hard drive data onto an external hard drive in order to upgrade my PS3 hard drive.
I am using a correctly formatted external hard drive and my PS3 recognises that the device is attached.
When i attempt to back up my data, the screen displays a message saying " Backing up... do not remove the storage media" and displays a bar that shows how long the process should take.
I the get an error message saying "The back up operation could not be completed", and an error code - 8001002E.
Can anyone help?

250gb external drive. his machine,
Swiss knife.
It's a friend of mines hard drive. He used it to upgrade his PS3 when he put a new drive in then deleted his data off of it, so i know the hard drive works.

I've deleted all demos and videos that i had downloaded off of the PS store. The only things left are game saves and game data, and they all appear to be working fine.

Is there a limit to the amount of data that i can back up?
