Hi Guys,

As of today the new system software update version 4.00 is avaiable to download.  This update is mandatory and will include the following features:

PlayStation®Vita system compatibility

You can now copy content such as music, video, image data, games and other applications from the PS3 system to the PS Vita system and vice versa.

You can back up the data saved in the PS Vita system to the PS3 system hard disk.  You can also update the system software and activate the system using the network features of the PS3 system.

To use these features, connect the PS3 system and the PS Vita system with a USB cable. Operations are done from the PS Vita system. (Sign-in on PS3 is required when connecting PS3 and PS Vita. Also, the PSN accounts on PS3 and PS Vita must be the same)

• [Delete PS Vita System’s Backup Files] has been added as a feature under [System Settings]. PS Vita system backup files that are being managed by a logged in user can be deleted.

• [PS Vita System Application Utility] has been added as a feature under Game. Application data (game, save data, add-ons, etc) backed up from PS Vita can be stored (and deleted) here.

• PS Vita is added under [Remote Play Settings] > [Register Device]

Settings

• Upscaler output and Cinema conversion are now supported for Blu-ray Disc (BDMV) content. Blu-ray Discs recorded in BDMV formats are always played in the [Normal] mode under [Settings]>[Video Settings]>[BD/DVD Upscaler]. Regardless of the resolution of the content being played, video is always output in the maximum resolution in [Display Settings]. The setting [BD/DVD Cinema Conversion] under [Settings] > [Video Settings] can now be used for BDMV playback. 3D image is output in the original resolution.

• You can now select the items you want to update under [System Settings] > [Automatic Update]. This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation®Plus members.

The [Upload saved data to online storage] option must be set for each game. This option cannot be set up under this setting. Set to [Off] to cancel all selected automatic update options.

• [English (United Kingdom)] and [Portuguese (Brazil)] have been added as options under [Settings] > [System Settings] > [System Language].
PlayStation®Network

PlayStation®Network

• [Privacy Settings] has been added as a feature under [Account Management]. This will allow users to control who they receive messages and Friend Requests from.

• PlayStation Plus icon will be displayed for non-plus members under the PlayStation Network category.

Any questions please ask  :smileyhappy:

Good to see that the system is being prepared for the Vita before launch. Just one question.

Why would the Playstation Plus icon be displayed for non Playstation Plus Members in the Network catagory?

Hi arashi_85,

For those who do not have PlayStation Plus, the symbol appears under the Network Icon on the XMB. When you press X on this option it redirects you to the store and explains the benefits of signing up for Plus. It then gives you the option of signing up for it- so it is essentially a short cut to the store.

Ahh, cunning! I thought it was an icon that would appear for all users like the Plus Icon next to your profile. Thanks for clearing that up

When syncing trophies on the XMB(not in-game XMB) does anyone else just have the progress bar and the percentage? There no other text anymore that said something like "Performing trophy sync..." but in game it's back.

When doing a trophy sync on the XMB you will now find that it does not tell you it's syncing trophies- it will just be the percentage bar. Also when the sync has completed you may have to manually exit the screen (by pressing the circle button) to return to the XMB.

OMG!  Did it ever occur to anyone at Sony that if I'm not a PS+ Subscriber I may actually not want to be.  Why then pollute the XMB with another useless icon?  Suggestion: After 3 months of not clicking on this pointless icon, it is auto-deleted from my XMB (the same can be used for every other marketing icon I have never used).

You also make no mention of the boot up health warning.  Why is that there? Can using the XMB cause seizures now?  Correct me if I'm wrong but EVERY game on the PS3 (BR or PSN) already displays this warning.  I'm pretty sure the collective arses are covered in this respect.

I know you're just doing your job SFZ but some decision making lately regards PS3 progression/feature development leaves a lot to be desired.  I have resigned myself to the fact that the PS3 is dead in this respect, Sony are only interested in their 'paying' customers and future Vita users.  Sod the rest, eh?

Oh, I guess one person on the globe is suing Sony after have an epileptic fit and probably claiming the 'Sparkles' on the XMB background caused it.

Or more aptly, I remember saying that the moment Sony allowed different colour Profile cards, that some numpty would flick down them too quickly causing some kind of seizure.  Yes, yes, that must be it. :smileyindifferent:
