Transfering gaming profiles between consoles?

The problem i've been having is copying character profiles such as Tiger08 and PES2008 from my PS3 to friends PS3's. It seems the problem is that both my character saves and my friends character saves are given the same name so when we try to transfer my profile it prompts us that his profile will be deleted. It is not possible to rename the file on the PC because it then shows as corrupted data.

The only workaround we have found is to create at least 2 characters and use 2nd character which will save as *****USER02 rather than *****USER01. This works but is a total pain especially if you have to start a new character from scratch just so you are able to transfer to a friends console.

Does anyone know of a better resolve or even if sony are likely to do anything about this? It seems like a right balls up on their behalf! Thanks.

Re: Transfering gaming profiles between consoles?

I Totally know what you mean. I have the same problem, you see, I was going to buy a new Ps3 for christmas, one for myself, I've been using my brothers Ps3 all the time and all my data and purchases are stored on it. I dont know wether I should buy a new Ps3 or just leave it, Beacause I've heard it can corrupt data trying to transfer it, and  I dont want to lose all my lbp levels, and game data. When you buy a Ps3, and set it up, do you go to new user,  add and existing account, then put in your name and password. Because thats what i think happens. Anyways christmas is just around the corner, so I really need to know!!!
