DIY Fix worked fine for me, took about a hour or so to copy from my 80gb

to a my new 640gb. Just need to do a quick format from the ps3 system

menu once you put your new one in & your ready to go again.

I wish backup restore didn't take so long, it took nearly 2 hours to

restore a 40gb backup.

Would appear that Sony have fixed the firmware file, just download from the official link and it should work.

People on the US forums are currently posting that they are now successfully installing the 3.41 FW on new drives, apparently the file may have been updated without any announcement being made. Can anyone confirm if the EU/UK firmware is working yet?

Its worked for me. Used the one from uk.playstation.com.

I'm up and running now too. Definately works, now in process of getting all my store downloads onto it. everything as it was on old 40gb HDD
