I recently got a ps3 from a friend which he found at a car boot sale. I tried to update it but it keeps stopping at 70% and giving the error code 8002F14E. I get get away from the update, but also last I tried it won't read games and just ejects them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you updating from a USB stick or through the internet browser?

Try updating via storage media OR internet if it is failing by storage media.

Sorry forgot about that. Im updating by internet. Its at the installation stage thatvit messes up and I can't get away from it to try updating by USB

I cant cancel it and restarting the ps3 doesnt work it keeps trying to install it ...

It potentially may be that when you have downloaded the update onto a USB, not all the information is on there correctly? Aside from putting it in the correct folder the download goes through in stages, therefore some data may be missing. This would be due to your connection potentially which means if you tried to update through the USB or the console you would encounter the same thing.

If you can, just for the update, wire your PS3 up to the internet to download through the system or alternatively wire the PC up when downloading the update.

Thanks, ill try that when I can. How do I get it to stop installing the update so I can try again..? Everytime I switch the ps3 on it says something like it was interupted and tries to install again

Are you able to access Safe mode at all?

Just tried it now. It doesnt go into safe mode just keeps on trying to install the update =(
