Why wont my Playstation 3 perform background Downloads?

have recently purchased a 250G PS3 slim, and when I first got it, it was able to perform background downloads no problem, only recently for some reason when trying to download demos or anything from the PSN and using the 'perform in background' option then lauching a game the download status immediately turns to 'pending' and will only resume once I have quit the game, does anyone else have this problem?? I have downloaded the latest system software so it isnt that. What the hell is going on someone please please help!!! Basically why does the download stop when I launch a game?? I have the latest system software installed so its not that. Please someone help this is so frustrating!!!

Re: Why wont my Playstation 3 perform background Downloads?

some (most / all?) games stop background d/ls as they reserve the 'net connection for any online things that they (the games) might need - I believe.

Not something I've taken particular notice of, but then I don't tend to try to play games whilst downloading.
But I think that's how it's been for as long as I recall...

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..

Is there any way to disable that? as I only want to play the game normally and not online.

Re: Why wont my Playstation 3 perform background Downloads?

No, it's entirely dependent on the game you are playing. You can use the 'shutdown when downloads have finished' option which installs everything as well.
